Yeah....that's got to be one of the weirdest-looking consoles I've seen this side of a Prius LOL.

I love it!
Much better than the current design, inside and out.
They mention wheelbase has been extended and frame is more rigid giving it better control ride.

I would love to see it get some of the body love the non-hybrid gets, but sadly if history is any indicator, it will be a premium price with the base model look
Red one is the XSE (sport version)

silver is the hybrid. I'm glad toyota differentiated the 2.

Strange styling overall. The hybrid grille is flat out inexcusable. There's no reason to make such a massive opening other than just being drunk during the design and approval phase. This is the same thinking and execution that ruined the Prius.
The XSE has some nice lines to it. Very Maxima in back. And the new LS was said to have a Maxima backend too. Interesting trends going on right now. The half-blacked out C-pillar is also trendy, just for the sake of it. Style of the quad tailpipes is about as cheap and dated as it gets (90's Pontiac Grand AM). Looks like plumbing pipes hack-sawed off.
The triangle center console is going to take a lot of getting used to. I find it totally unattractive as far as flow and aesthetics goes, but it will probably work and be copied by others. At least there is a normal gear shift lever for those who want to operate their vehicles in the quickest and safest possible fashion (what a concept!).
Mechanicals and mpg's sound very impressive. This alone is going to bring people in.
Overall, the new Camry went for a sporty, youthful, and gimmicky look. Gone is any luxury, class, or elegance. It will sell.

For me the deal buster on the Mazda is the 4 cylinder. I'd much rather have this new Camry with the V6. Still like the Mazda though, especially with the manual...

Have you driven it? I'm not a fan of 4cyl engines either but it feels just as peppy as the 3.5L, just as smooth and the overall package of the Mazda, incredible for the segment interior would sell it to me.

I'm surprised the structural rigidity only increased by 30%. Either the 20yr old platform in the current camry is incredibly engineered, back in its days, or the TNGA isnt thaaat much of an improvement. I was expecting in the magnitude of at least 50% or more, like some competitors claim every time a new platform is used.

Yes and the structural rigidity is disappointing to say the least on the GS, and this was before getting t-boned by someone. Now its just a rattly and shuddery. 2 more years to go on this lease then I'm definitely gunning for the Camry XSE.

Yeah, I had one as a rental. Great cars. It's a nice, smooth, and competent engine but I didn't find it close to a nearly 300 hp V6.

Did you have a high trim one? The difference in the style and the upscale feel to me outweighs any difference in the engine.

No, it was a mid level.

For Mazda6 versus current/previous Camry, I'd be all over the Mazda, even given the engine difference. But I have high hopes (confidence?) that this new Camry can close the gap on the upscale feel.

I dunno, just from looking at it, its a little aggressive to me. I think the Mazda is a lot more appealing.

No it doesn't, if this were the case no automaker would even bother with a V6 engine. Let's be real here.
