i had a 13GS, it was a great car. I like new cars though, no interest in used cars.

I lease cars. I keep them 3 years or so and move on to a new car.

Used GS all the way. Its a WAY nicer car, I don't care if somebody else farted in it first. At 30k you are still looking at a 4 cylinder Camry. The Lexus GS just feels that sort of special when you step in it, the interior design is pretty damn cool and very high quality IMO.

That's what a lot of people want nowadays, though.....just look at that car's sales-figures.

Default Used 2018

I think I'll be looking at a used 2018 XSE or Accord Sport in 2019/2020

I get what you’re saying, but the 4 cylinder argument doesn’t apply to the general population IMO, considering most shopping in the luxury segment don’t have a problem paying 75k for a 4 cylinder E Class.

i could speculate about owning a 2030 car in 2032 but who knows what else will be available... i know you think you're getting a better deal because you've avoided the higher initial depreciation, but you're still driving a used car and won't benefit from new advances. i get that many don't care, but that doesn't mean it's not true.

That is why, when asked, members answered that they preferred the brand new 2018 Camry over the CPO, older GS; the 2018 Camry (especially the 4-cylinder model with the brand new, not carry-over engine) has the latest technology but the GS does not.

this would be to particularly have the 2018 advances and not pay for significant depreciation

I think you get what you pay for, and a brand new car is better than a cheaper 2 year old used car.
After 2 years, the price has fallen, but there is also progress in technology, plus: progressive deterioration of the paintwork, "fatigue" fractures, and progressive loosening of screws and body parts - developing in an used car.
The same develops in an used apartment or house, but because buildings are static rather than dynamic, buildings are exposed to relatively lower forces, hence building deterioration and ageing is much slower, hence the depreciation of a property is much slower too.

However, I find that this topic draws just as much debate as Canon vs Nikon, apartment vs house, sedan vs SUV, ICEV vs EV, gasoline vs diesel, atmospheric vs turbo, Microsoft vs Apple, Android vs iPhone, and shares vs property - so I let people do & choose whatever they like...

If you wait for a year or 2 before buying a 2018 Camry, there will be more advanced cars available by that time. If you want the 2018 Camry but do not want to pay the new-car price, wait for a few months when low-mileage executive demos are being offered for sale.

I have always liked a brand new car. I like the idea that I am the first owner, I know everything about it. I like the idea that the tech or safety is all new and up to date. I have never bought a used car from a dealer, only time was from my parents
