Hey all, as the title states, my sister and brother-in-law are looking for a car for her to drive. Back in September they moved to Oahu and had their Wrangler (TJ) shipped over, which he drives. My sister just got her real estate license so she is now in need of a car since she'll be driving clients around. The vehicle will be leased and she doesn't want to spend more than $400month. Her criteria are that the vehicle is safe/reliable, decent back seat leg room, preferably not a sedan (likes the higher drive height of CUVs). Decent gas mileage is always a positive.
I've suggested to her thus far:
RDX, Forester, Crosstrek, CX-5, CR-V
Any other suggestions? Thanks!

Unless I'm missing something, I don't see where she needs AWD in Hawaii....a classic tropical climate. The Crosstrek and Forester only come that way in American markets...no FWD. And, you mention gas mileage......FWD, of course, will also probably have an advantage there, too.
There are other possibilities, too, besides the ones you mention. The Buick Encore is rather small, but comes in FWD versions, has a quite-plush interior for something in that class (IMO, leftover 2016s are somewhat more plusher inside than the redesigned 2017), has been reliable, and gets relatively good mileage, though its small 1.4L turbo may be underpowered with several people in the car. Also might want to look at the Lincoln MKC...somewhat larger than the Encore (but still compact-sized), also with a nice interior. Lincoln is advertising leases as low as $279 on FWD MKC models for 36 months, with $2700 down....that's not bad. Reliability, as with the Ford Escape it's based on, may (?) be a weak point with the MKC, but, for the entire lease period, it will be under warranty.

MKC is a good suggestion. Thanks.

Agreed, but the reviews say it has a pretty small back seat. Maybe not so good for driving clients around. If the RDX is too much coin, maybe a CR-V?

CR-V is a safe choice, though road noise is always an annoyance of mine in Honda's. Not sure if the latest CR-V addressed it.

With gas prices in Hawaii I'd consider something like a RAV4 Hybrid or even a Soul EV.

Honda may have addressed the noise in the CR-V as well. The Accord leased at $340 per month for 3 years with virtually nothing down. It is a base model but is pretty well equipped with back-up camera and dual-zone A/C and will accommodate Apple Car Play.

Another option could be the new Buick Envision. The interior & overall refinement is much better than the mainstream options like Forester, Crosstrek, CX-5, CR-V and you should be able to lease one for less than $ 400 / month.
