The first part of this is opinion based, and to say the Spindle doesn't really appeal to the mass market is asinine considering U.S. Lexus sales are right in the thick of it. BMW 346,023 vehicles, followed by Lexus with 344,601 and Mercedes with 343,088. All three brands set annual U.S. sales records last year.

Try again

Most Lexus powertrains are still naturally aspirated whereas the competition is heavily into forced induction. It's kind of apples to oranges, but Lexus NA engines are stout and refined. As SW15LS mentioned, a new TTV6 derived from Toyota's F1 efforts will be the basis for future Lexus powertrains. Lastly the 2018 LS has barely been introduced, a V8 version will follow around refresh time. The hybrid 500h is slated before it. Patience is a virture.

Lmao what auto company doesn't? CUVs have outsold sedans for several years now..

F is not even a decade old..

To say "nothing like the 90s and early 2000s. Yeah, they sell a LOT more cars now lol.

The issue is not being able to let go of the past. Rose colored glasses too, remember that back then plenty of people thought the Germans made heads a shoulders better cars too.

This is another one of those "Lexus is ugly" threads that pops up every 2 weeks or so; they are usually quickly shut down by the moderators. Kill this one also.

This isn't just a thread about lexus is ugly. this is about the direction lexus is taking. January sales figures don't lie and overall they are on downward trend with a lot of their models.

Acura died because it got old. Their TL became more conservative and ugly. Their RL was completely boring and looked like any other Honda product. They lost the RSX and replaced it with a boooooring TSX. Acura = boring.

Lexus spindle grill is awesome. I love it. I would have never purchased a 2nd Gen IS because it was too conservative and boring. The new Lexus products are polarizing but so much fun to look at and drive. This new Lexus isn't anything close to what Acura has become...COMPLETELY opposite and I welcome it. I even love the Cylon looking RX350. So I say bring it Lexus...bring more spindle grilled LC500s and twin turbo charged next gen IS-Fs

Did you also look at everybody else's sales figures for January? January was a bad month. You can't look at one month, overall Lexus is doing very well.

That maybe so, but if you look at multiple months the overall trend for many models is on its way down.

On sedans, which is an industry shift not unique to Lexus. Bear in mind too that Lexus' sedans are on the older side right now, while much of the competition has new models, it will come back around it always does.

Go to a BMW or Mercedes or whatever forum. People who own old ones think those companies have lost their way too.

Guys lets take the whole Acura comparison out of this. Lets look at this big picture and for the future. If Lexus continues to have questionable design, limited power train options compared to competitors what do you think will happen to sales and overall view of Lexus brand.

That is so true. Its funny how german brands are trying to be more soft like Lexus and Lexus is trying to be more sporty like germans. I think the difference is the general public sees german brands as the benchmark and will always have consistent sales. Not sure if lexus has that yet with general public.

No way, Acura is fine with targeting its niche of upper income suburbanites who want a nicer Honda. Lexus is making, in my opinion, the best vehicles in its history. The IS, GS, and especially the upcoming redesigned LS are all solid cars. And while the RX is ugly, it's 100x better than all its previous variants. The interior actually feels luxurious for once.

For the first time, Lexus actually has a couple models that German fanboys like myself would consider.

You're the one who brought Acura into the discussion by putting it in the subject line of your thread LOL.

Again, "questionable design" is YOUR opinion. Limited powertrain options....so the LS has always had a V8 and for most of its life only a V8, yet having "limited powertrain options" was not a problem then, but it is now? Lexus has NEVER had cars that truly respond to the ultra performance offerings from BMW and Mercedes, or even Audi, if anything they have closer answers now in their F line cars than they've ever had before, yet somehow they don't offer the options they used to offer? How does that make any sense?

You don't like the new cars, thats fine....but something is not ugly and unattractive to everybody just because its unattractive to you. For instance...I never cared for the 2GS but many here holds it as the vaunted example of what a Lexus should always be. IMHO it was the least attractive iteration of the GS made. That however is my opinion, and I understand that many people here, nare I say most people would disagree with me. Thats fine.

If BMW or whoever makes cars that better appeal to you now, those vehicles are available for sale.

Actually most people thought the Lexus cars were better.
Even the biased mags honored cars like the LS, SC, GS and RX.
Some of these were really incredible cars and way better than competition.

Lexus was able to do what no one except for maybe Tesla had accomplished. Build a brand out of nothing and make it a major player.

Yes Lexus sells a lot still but its really RX, ES and NX.
Where is the innovative tech or engines? New segments? Convertibles? Etc.

They had momentum to be the greatest Luxury brand but they are settling for just being good, which is OK bec they are making lots of $$$$$. But rumors of GS being discontinued, F cars not selling, while other brands are flooding the market with new models and crazy performance cars.....anyway it is what it is.
