Selling price and lease programs are separate parts that make up the final deal.

The money factor (rate) and residual are not aggressive compared to past years for BMW.
In addition they don't have loyalty and other lease cash programs that they once had.
Getting invoice has never been hard on a BMW unless its ///M model.

Even with all that it leases for more than GS by at least $100/month because a comparable 530/540i costs so much more. Residual for GS is lower which hurts its lease pricing.

correct, gs350 is a low to mid 500 lease. 540 and e300 are mid 600 range

definitely worrisome on the gs, i want to see what lexus is doing this year and the brand moving forward.

Interesting how Lexus paid no attention to Audi but you could have seen it two years ago that main competitor to Lexus in near time future would be Audi, not MB or BMW. That's exactly what's happening in sedan sales in 2017. Audi has beat Lexus in every segment they are competing when it comes to sedans and coupes.

i could see a next gen gs being like a shortened new LS or maybe like a 4 door LC going away from the straight lines to the curves and style. that could possibly bring some new mojo to the gs. the new tt v6 would also make the gs a sweet car. but right now, although the gs is not a bad car, it lacks variants, broadly appealing style, and a weak infotainment system and 'controller'.

Let's face it, the next 2 yrs will be rough for Lexus until the new models on the new platform and new powertrains come out. They will have to rely on the mediocre NX, middle of the road RX and to a smaller extent the ancient GX to survive until then. The LS and LC will not move the sales needle much. The LC will attract some people to the showroom, then they see all the rest and will decide to go somewhere else.

I assist friends/family/co-workers all the time in car shopping, just as many other members here, so I have a good feel for what a regular person looks for.

why are these GS owners that are coming of their leases not getting a new GS then?
obviously they are not that impressed with refresh therefore new engines and keeping the product fresh and exciting is very important especially with so many new players in the luxury segment.
What do you disagree with? That mainstream buyers can't tell the difference between a 2008 v6 and a 2016 v6? And you base it all on the people in your sphere of influence? No wonder you disagree, you're only seeing whats available inside your own world. Not that its a bad thing in your life but it certainly isn't good when attempting to speak for an entire market.

Sure you can disagree all you want. Your opinion that the new GS spindle, styling, and lack of powertrain hurts sales, numbers don't lie.

Every iteration of GS sales have gone down by the year and just like the 3GS, the 4GS sales cratered by 10k after the refresh. How do you explain the same trend for completely different design languages? The 3GS 08 refresh was just a touch up compared to 4GS refresh, which was radical. yet you have the confidence to say that I'm "100% wrong". Alright.

Mainstream buyers get the ES period.
When you walk in to Lex dealer looking for midsize sedan, you will have 10ES for every 1 GS to choose from. Sales reps also just tend to market the ES as that whats sells easier since its cheaper.

People that buy the GS may not be car "enthusiasts" but they want their car to make an expression and they also have some knowledge of the Eclass, 5series etc.
These days it takes 2seconds for any Joe Shmo to get the basic #s on any car.
Consumers are not dumb they know when a product is stale.

The poor lease programs and unappealing refresh are also contributors to the sales decline.
