Now, THAT is funny. Love simple math. Thanks for the laugh!

Last month it was time for us to buy. We looked at the gen 4 RX. From the rear and side, it's striking. We liked it. Then we saw the front. Man that is nasty looking, I mean really ugly. The wife just looked at me and said "No" before I could say it. I can't believe sales are "up", it's that ugly.
We settled on a gen 3 CPO RX. I don't see a gen 4 in our future unless they revise that horrible grill work.

Some 10+ years ago I bought a mid trim Mitsubishi Outlander with a V6 at a very steep discount. I drove it around for about a year and decided to sell it. While it was trouble free and overall a good reliable vehicle, it was not stable in highway speeds especially in the rain. It had OEM tires which had plenty of treads, but the vehicle was just tend to slide all over the place in the rain in the "SOUTH". PROBABLY with a set of better tires, it COULD be better. ALSO WAY TOO MUCH TORQUE STEER. The mpg was just OK considering it was a V6. The engine and the rest of the vehicle was just not as refined as I would like. Given the price I bought it for, I really shouldn't complain too much. When I sold it about a year and some 10k miles later, I was able to sell it at about the same price I had bought it for (minus the TTL).

Given the choices now with all available mid size SUV out there, it will be a tough sell for Mitsubishi.

How fast were you driving? Today's tires are generally pretty good in the rain, but you still have to slow down some. I generally won't go more than 55-60 when the pavement is wet...the harder the rain and the more water on the pavement, the slower I go.

As much as I dislike the 4RX styling, I would still choose one over a 3RX, that was a vehicle that I truly found mediocre. Poor quality interior, loose and unremarkable ride.

Lots of other great options in that segment I would buy, Volvo XC90, BMW X3 or X5, Jaguar F Pace. The new Land Rover Discovery that's coming out. Acura MDX. The list goes on. The decision to buy a used 3RX is not because of the 4RX styling, that has to be financially motivated unless the buyer just refused to consider anything but a Lexus.

And let's not forget the Jeep Grand Cherokee. True, reliability can be spotty, but in general, it is a darn nice vehicle for the money...and, in this area, the sales-figures reflect that.
