Different strokes for different folks. I personally love the 4RX sheet metal and it's striking design as opposed to the understated F-Pace. I wouldn't be caught dead in any of the previous generations of the RX. Based on looks alone, I'd choose the RX, but factoring performance, the F-Pace's sportier nature makes it pretty attractive.

I kind of feel the same. I always attributed the massive RX sales numbers to reliability and being somewhat luxury. I never thought they were ascetically pleasing. The new one is quite the contrast to the old. I'm actually considering it as a replacement for my wife's CR-V. She may want the NX, though. I want something bigger!
Gotta say, this is one of the best trolling threads of the century.
I agree it is a divisive issue, but I wouldn't necessarily call it a troll. The new RX has had controversial styling since it was first unveiled at the auto shows. It generates strong feelings either way.
As for the question, no the RX is not this century's Aztek.
I don't think the RX is the Aztek of century by any means. However, in the new issue of C&D they have an interview with Ed Welburn the recently retired VP of Design at GM. They asked him about any bad designs in his opinion. His reply: "Yeah, there's one that sticks out, but I'm not going to tell you what that is. Vehicles where things don't add up. There's one design in the front, a very different one on the rear, and another on the sides. It really doesn't go together, and the nose looks like Darth Vader's face"
The RX is pretty ugly in base form but with some options it looks decent enough. It's definitely way over-styled and it won't age well, but by no means is it close to being as abhorrent as the Aztek.
I'd say the car in production today which is closest to the Aztek's level of hideousness is the new Prius.
Personally I think the "predator"/spindle grill face looks great on the Lexus sedans, but man its horrid on the SUV's. Also the rear roof line, d-pillar on the RX is rather dumpy/weird/frumpy/ugly looking according to my eyes, that chrome strip looks like a landau bar on a hearse, especially on black cars. I'd say the RX is one of the ugliest SUV's on sale today. That being said, it isn't nearly as bad as the Aztek, or the Honda Element when it comes to ugly cars.
