I agree that the interior design is exceedingly on the simple side. The reason is because they wanted to replicate the look of the original 8er's interior.

It looks very expensive however. From the swaths of metal and leather to the construction and overall build quality, its among the best in the world frankly.

This thing looks like a regular 6-series coupe to me or like all the other BMW's.... Doesn't look special enough to deserve the 8 series nameplate.

I think designers lost their touch. Nowadays if they design a unique car, it usually ends up looking super ugly and hideous. Nobody can design an elegant car anymore.
^^ This. I love it that they are bringing back the 8 Series and ditching the pointless current 6 Series (although you'd never know it by looking at this concept car) but it is not a visual equal to the original timeless 840/850. Put one of those next to this concept and there is no comparison.

This is not visually distinctive enough to bestow the 8 Series nameplate. I agree that this concept looks very much like the outgoing 6 Series.

I love the back. Front looks too much like an aardvark.

The original 8 series interior was not simple, it was full of buttons and switches for one thing, they have eliminated most of the buttons on this new design which means you have to use a annoying touchscreen or mouse for most functions.

Agreed. The rear is absolutely gorgeous. The kidney grills are too big in the front. I like the lights and the shark nose, but the grill is overdone. I hope the production car tones the grill down a little bit. I hope they keep the rear and profile however.

Well the lack of buttons is just a sign of the times; but if you look at the layout of the dash and doors (including the placement of the door handles and things of that nature) you'll notice that it is supposed to be a modern interpretation of the original car's interior.

I like how it looks but not so much how much it costs.

I bumped up this old thread to add a video showing the new 8-series being tested at the Nurburgring:

Love it. As others have stated, the original 8 series is also my favorite BMW of all time. I see a couple of them driving around my area and still admire them. Actually talked to an indy Euro mechanic about them a few weeks ago as I'm considering buying one to restore a bit and hold onto.

I noticed a few people in this thread mentioned they are killing the 6 Series. Is that true? I love the 6 Series Gran Coupe and the regular coupe is pretty nice too. The Gran Coupe is one of my favorite cars out right now.
