Well that officially ruins it for me. What has been seen, cannot be unseen

IMO, if it's DOA, the public will only have itself to blame. All we've heard on Toyota/Lexus forums (including this one), for the last twenty years, is the same gripe, over and over.....when is Toyota finally going to do another high-performance sports car? (the 86 obviously was not true high-performance). Well, you'll finally have one, even if it was done partly with BMW (as the 86 was partly done with Subaru)....so, now it's time to open your wallets.

Disagree. We asked for the top one. Toyota gave us the bottom one. It's Toyota's fault.

Luckily they made BMW do most of the work

I can understand, though, why Toyota and BMW didn't go with the top one. Its general stance, ground-clearance, tires/wheel-well clearance, and several other factors probably would have made it impractical for street use. Not only that, but IMO, wth the high rear spoiler and long, low front end, it looks more like something you would see on an NHRA quarter-mile drag strip, in the top-fuel-class, than in a general high-performance sports car for the street.

For the price they're going to ask and with options. They'd have done better to make it more exotic looking like it's concept. Lexus did a heck of a job keeping the LC 500 close to the LF-LC Concept.

^^^ Agree. LC was beautifully transitioned from concept to reality. Supra from FT-1 is a botched job - pudgy and bloated looking. Was considering a Supra to get a weekend toy again but from these pics, I will sadly pass.

^^^ And how well is the LC 500 selling, even in its niche market? That's the price to be paid for staying true to the original concept. Purists may want a mass market manufacturer and its luxury arm to cater to their tastes, but the market and the business model cannot sustain it. Toyota had to water down the Supra and share development costs, engineering expertise with BMW to even make another Supra happen.

Toyota knows what happened with the MKIV. It's unlikely that they're going to try and give purists their version of the Nissan GTR or some sort of edgy, showy car meant for car shows or race tracks. It's gotta be an all-rounder.

Good post, Matty. That's exactly what happened with the Supra. You have to design a car that will be practical for street use. It may not satisfy the most extreme purists, but such is life. And, a word to the wise......if the purists don't by this Supra, they will probably have to wait twenty years for another one.....likely with an electric motor LOL.

LC is a lot smaller car than LC concept but they hid it well. With Supra there was no way in hell they could hide micro chassis they were given. They did better job than BMW cause they kept the metal clean from sharp lines and decoration but still it looks squished and bubbly.

Idk what you guys are talking about. It looks pretty damn close to the concept. The only problem is that the concept is pretty ugly itself.

The car is ugly and the nose is the worst part of it. On top of that, the bubbly look of it is not appealing. It looks too tall and not low and wide like a sports car should be. It looks just like what it is, a modern Z4.
