Original Supra was technically a Celica with the Supra name tacked on a common thing for Toyota back in the day they didn't want to certify an entirely new model until they knew it was going to be successful. The Tesla Roadster 2 will likely be the fastest car ever made but who knows when it will be available.
Props to Alex on Autos excellent vid I have to admit it made me like the car more.

anyway, this Supra seems like a great sports car. not jazzed by its looks but seems like it will sell. Someone wrote a good comment that they would be very leery having a Toyota dealer service it since it’s a BMW engine and Toyota doesn’t do turbos these days in anything else in the U.S. hopefully training is good enough...

The issue w/ the supra is a base v6 camaro has more hp than it and is literally $25k, half the price of a supra. Why would anyone buy this?

I googled very quickly, but the more powerful Camaro is 3,760 lb, versus the Supra that is listed with 3,397 lb of weight. Meaning, you will need at least 130 hp to the krank to have the Camaro competing in the league of the Supra. And it will be a swine in twisty road agility in regard to a more small and good chung lighter chassis.
Accel times are around the same 4.0 for the Camaro SS, 3.9 with launch control. Supra is 4.1 without anything engaged.

I'm pretty sure this was the case back in the 90's. The Supra still became legendary, whereas nobody even remembers what a base model 90's Camero looks like.

I do, but yeah I agree otherwise.
I have absolutely zero interest in this car. It will bring Toyota's reliability down.

I watched some of the reviews - some common themes:
- Fun to drive
- Feels faster than the claimed 335hp
- Fast shifts from Auto
- Sounds good
- Good chassis
- Controls and overall feel is very BMW
- Very compromised cabin - poor visibility, 2 seater, limited storage
- Steering light and a little slow (slower than BRZ/86 and Cayman)
- Interior is all BMW
- Nobody knows what Toyota actually did with the engine development if anything
Cayman and Corvette buyers are the primary targets imo.
I think some of the muscle car buyers will look at it as well but the small interior and compromised packaging will be a turnoff for many.
I rather this be a 2+2 with open top like the MKIV and go against the Mustang, Camaro and Challenger.
There are much more buyers in that class than a 2 seater compromised sports car thats fun on track with auto trans.

As far as open top like MKIV. I have a Hardtop Supra and have driven friends Targa's some with 500hp and one with almost 1200hp. The chassis flex is very noticeable, I actually passed on Targa's when looking for my MKIV and I'm yet to see any of my friends with Targa's actually take them off and drive. Don't get me wrong Targa's are a nice option I just don't like the chassis feel.

ive watched a few videos on it including the doug demuro one, i seriously can't believe just how much of this car has nothing to do with toyota whatsoever... i'm curious to see what Smokey Nagata says about the zupra
i'm also still worried that the car will handle too well but i haven't driven it so there's not much more i can say
