First year product release, I'm sure the C8 will have issues too. I deal with product deployments both software and hardware and it's the norm that there will be issues. Don't act like Toyota products themselves are without issues. The build quality of the 90's Supra is long gone if you expect that then you will be disappointed. My 00 GS has a better interior build than my 16 GX it is what it is.

yea but that's a corvette, not only is it a corvette but it's the first time ever a corvette has been built like this so no doubt it's bound to have some GM quality control issues

and believe me i know first hand that 90s toyota quality is gone... but now we have a "toyota" with major parts failing that actually have nothing to do with toyota, and on a highly anticipated model that's supposed to be a bit more thoroughly developed than your basic CH-R

I think you are expecting too much from Toyota and this new car. Look at where and what they are investing in, their stock has tripled since the MKIV stop being produced. They are literally worth more than Honda and Nissan combined yet didn't do an in house Halo Toyota Sports Car.

All the more reason they should have made a Supra their own way and not base it off German garbage.

tbh though the Magna Steyr plant they used for the Supra has been an interesting plant choice. Its the plant that makes the solid tank of a G wagon, but also put out automotive diarrhea in the form of the E83 X3.

They have the capabilities to but I'm sure the bean counters and the board have no interest in that segment. Essentially to make it in house they would lose money to keep msrp reasonable, of course the other product lines would make up for it but it's obvious they don't view it that way.

Sales numbers after the intial hype will determine if the bean counters were right to partner with BMW, or not.

There was probably not much financial risk on Toyota's part with this compared to a full blown in house model. I'm curious how many they have to sell to get to their break even point. So far they have sold almost 1500 since release in July according to this: https://s3.amazonaws.com/toyota-cms-...ales+CHART.pdf

Interesting to see the sales of the other Lexus/Toyota Models there too.

No chance Toyota would be able to pull off an in house Supra. Toyota is just not know for this type of vehicle in the modern era. The partnership was the right thing to do, but the interior could of been more distinct.

Right.

I get the business strategy but Toyota has the means to redo it all their way.
