there's a reason more and more cities are banning diesel........(not to mention the nasty smelling oily fuel)

Like, but ultimately I would want the gas motor.

The 5.7 is old and many V8s and V6tts make more power but I never hear anyone ever complaining that the 5.7 isn't enough. Like, never.

The gas mileage is horrendous but who cares, at least it takes regular.

One cannot necessarily blame the smog in European cities on diesels any more. The old stereotype of excessively-sooty diesel emissions is largely a thing of the past....along with most of the other diesel drawbacks of loud clatter, difficult cold-weather starts, long waits for the glow plugs to heat up, water and high sulfur levels in the fuel, and slug-like acceleration without a turbo. Today's 21st-century automotive (not truck) diesels are a world apart from those of decades ago...particularly with the urea-injection, which has vastly cleaned up the exhausts. In how they start, run, and pollute today, there is little difference between gasoline and diesel engines. Yes, VW was caught cheating with their diesel-programming, but that doesn't mean that all diesel-manufacturers do....there is little evidence to support that.

Whats the point of a diesel unless your hauling/towing w/ it? Have a look at the diesel engine option & how long it'd take to recoup the cost in fuel savings. I'm not against them as I've had a couple 'strokes yrs ago. Really Toyota should be working on improving the mileage of the 5.7's or another engine altogether such as a turbo'ed v/6, ect....

A lot of saving, clean engine emissions, huge torque.
It could do 1200km or more on ful tank of 140 liters.
👍
8.5l/100km? Is that solely when cruising at relatively low speeds?

I drove original LC200 with 4.5d4d when it just came out and our averages were more like 15l-18l/100km... Of course, V8 petrol did like >25l/100km all day long.
Still, petrol felt a lot better, more responsive and much nicer sound. It would be nice to know if they improved that.

I've driven with a friend in his diesel jeep GC quite a bit, one thing I can't stand is how filthy diesel pumps get. The handles seem to always be greasy and oily and I could never associate owning an upscale vehicle with having to carry around a rag to wipe my hands after filling up.
