It's mostly been said already, but that's one ugly front. It's more of a disappointment, that a respectable company like Toyota can lose their way so deeply. I cannot find it anywhere in me, how any auto executive could find this appealing and give it a green light. There has to be more to these shocking decisions than we will ever know.
Other stuff: The d-pillar thins towards the bottom, where it should be getting thicker. Rear bumper is very oddly shaped, making the back of the car tuck out. Love the ski-jump reference to the center console. Another poor design choice. Seniors are the ones who are retired and have money saved up. They are the ones looking at Avalons. I think even their deteriorating senses will be strong enough to fend off this vehicle.
A sad day for many of us who had high hopes. I am so scared now to see what they do with the ES, which is next...
Such a lazy design. You don't even have to be a designer to know when things don't flow right. Beltline graphic that droops down with no apparent reason? Bumper side fender that sticks onto bumper headlight protrusion without any blending or coherence? Only explanation that I can come up for this F grade of design is they are protecting upcoming ES.
A photo of the 2019 Avalon from the Detroit International Auto Show. If the grille on the 2019 ES remotely resembles this grille I'm buying a Mustang...
Hideous IMO...

I saw the pictures of the new Avalon and agree it's just terrible. I'm sure that some of my fellow senior citizens won't mind but it's not for me.
