Surprise! More Ford and Lincoln cars found with marijuana

Reese Counts
AutoblogJuly 27, 2017
Ford is starting to have a serious problem on its hands. Today, ABC 7 in Detroit reportedthat another batch of Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ cars were found packed with 227 pounds of marijuana. This is a little over a week after Fords in Ohio were found stuffed with marijuana and only about two months after Fords in Minnesota were found full of weed. All of the cars traveled on train from Mexico to their destination. All in, several thousand pounds and several million dollars worth of marijuana has been discovered.

According to the report, Immigration and Customs Enforcement found the cars at the Ford Rail Distribution Facility in Woodhaven, Michigan, just south of Ford's world headquarters in Dearborn. ICE became involved after a Ford employee reported the cars to Woodhaven police.

It's unclear when and where the cars were packed with marijuana. With the cars in Minnesota, it's believed that the weed was added after leaving the factory but before being loaded on the train. Spare tires were removed and the space was used to smuggle the marijuana.

Not surprising. Drug-smugglers never stop looking for ways to ply their corrupt, evil trade.

And.....Wow.....I came close to actually buying (or ordering) a Lincoln MKZ a couple of months ago (around the time they estimate they were stuffed). It was on my Top Five list.

Somehow not surprising. I'm thinking of how much weed they got in before they were caught, as I'm sure trains don't go through near as rigorous of an inspection as trucks do at the border crossing. Putting it in new cars on those auto racks was pretty clever too, nobody would think to look in there, hey its full of new cars.

I'm wondering if it was the rail employees or Ford employees packing the cars with weed. And how they were getting the weed out of the cars, generally rail facilities in the USA have cameras, fences, security guards, gates with guards, etc.

.....or people from the drug-cartel, snuck into the factories, dressed in fake Ford factory uniforms, and/or with fake-ID/plant-passes. It's not difficult for an organization with the money and resources the cartel has to get fake stuff like that.

The drug cartel has no problem paying off who ever they need to, to move their drugs.

This sure as hell is no one way street where they wait for the cars to land in US and then quietly in the dark get their stuff out of them. That would be the single most stupid wholesale trafficking plan in the books. I don't know where those cars go to as their first destination, probably some regional center, but yeah some guy probably employed by Ford or as subcontractor is the guy on the other side of the street.

I am thinking that the drugs get put in and taken out in the quiet, not well-patrolled, "neutral" areas -- the distribution lots -- between the assembly plant and the train, and between the train and the truck to dealers. The cars probably sit in these lots for a few hours, at least (and perhaps overnight), giving the traffickers time to load and unload the vehicles.

The constant movement of people (including foremen and managers) in the plant would make it difficult to load the drugs in the plant. And the crowded, dangerous conditions of the train cars and truck transports make it difficult to load while on the transports.

The minimum-wage private security folks who patrol the distribution lots would be easy to bribe to look the other way when the traffickers come through.
