Default Window tints in NYC

https://dmv.ny.gov/registration/tinted-windows

What do you guys do about NYS inspection nowadays? I was getting my new car inspected that doesn't have tints yet and the dude told me there's no way they'd pass me if they were tinted. Apparently, each shop has a device that checks the windows. Do you just peel the two front tints before the inspection and pay a shop to redo the two front windows? I am planning on doing 35% tint in the next few days and I'd like to hear back on how the rest of you are dealing with this.

Not worth it, you'll be getting pulled over constantly.

The law in New York State is a 30% tint (allowing 70% of the light through). Follow it, and you won't have any problems.

  • The windshield and front side windows cannot block more than 30% of the light.
    • Seventy percent or more of the light from the outside must pass through the window.
I am confused, does this mean legal tint is 30% or 70%

Actually, this article can explain it better than I can. It includes a useful video.

I think the lower the % goes the darker the windows get. So the legal amount is 70% which is basically no tint. I believe stock windows come with 92% for UV protection... I understand the safety concerns but 70% is not fair.
