BMW Group U.S. Reports July 2017 Sales

Woodcliff Lake, NJ - August 1, 2017... Sales of BMW brand vehicles decreased 14.8 percent in July for a total of 21,965 compared to 25,777 vehicles sold in July 2016. Year-to-date, the BMW brand is down 4.6 percent in the U.S. on sales of 171,051 vehicles compared to 179,213 sold in the first seven months of 2016.
Notable vehicle sales in July include the BMW 4 Series which increased 31.1 percent to 2,866 cars, the BMW 5 Series which increased 12.4 percent to 3,713 vehicles, and the BMW X5 which increased 8.8 percent to 2,986 vehicles.
“Sedans made something of a comeback in July even as the dog days and summer vacations had their effect on the pace of business,” said Bernhard Kuhnt, President and CEO, BMW of North America. “The new BMW 5 Series continues gaining as availability improves. The highly popular BMW X3 is now undergoing model changeover and we are looking forward to the market launch of the all-new model later this year.”

In total, the BMW Group in the U.S. (BMW and MINI combined) reported July sales of 26,363 vehicles, a decrease of 13.7 percent from the 30,551 vehicles sold in the same month a year ago. Year-to-date, BMW Group sales are down 5.5 percent on sales of 197,654 vehicles in the first seven months of 2017 compared to 209,131 in the same period in 2016.
MINI Brand Sales
For July, MINI USA reported 4,398 automobiles sold, a decrease of 7.9 percent from the 4,774 sold in the same month a year ago. Year-to-date, MINI USA reported a total of 26,603 automobiles sold, a decrease of 11.1 percent from 29,918 automobiles sold in the first seven months of 2016.

- Total MINI Pre-Owned sold 2,656 vehicles in July 2017, an increase of 1.0 percent from July 2016.
- Total MINI Pre-Owned sales year-to-date were 18,308, a 12.4 percent increase from the first seven months of 2016.

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) today reported July sales of 25,909 units, compared to 28,523 vehicles sold during the same month last year. On a year-to-date basis, Mercedes-Benz retails totaled 187,869 units, down 1.8% from the previous year. Adding 2,758 units for Vans and 182 units for smart, MBUSA achieved a grand total of 28,849 vehicles for the month.
“July proved to be a challenging month across the industry,” said Dietmar Exler, president and CEO of MBUSA. “We are in a position for another strong year with new products launching in the 2nd half.”
Mercedes-Benz volume leaders in July included the C-Class, GLC and GLE model lines. The C-Class took the lead at 4,899, followed by GLC sales of 4,002. The GLE rounded out the top 3 with 3,879 units sold.
Mercedes-AMG high-performance models sold 2,098 units in July, with a total 19,128 sold year-to-date (up 52.9%).
Separately, Mercedes-Benz Certified Pre-Owned (MBCPO) models recorded sales of 8,654 vehicles in July, a decrease of 17.7% when compared to the same month last year (10,517). On a year-to-date basis, MBCPO sold 68,847 vehicles, a decrease of 2.8% over 2016 (70,863).

Let's not be dissing Ford here.
They finally had the stones to build something world class.
The test I would like to see is to run the GT and the NSX on the track for hours (just gas and tire stops) and see which one holds up better. My sense is that the GT is really build to beat the crap out of. I believe the NSX is totally stout, and is up to a lot of track use, but perhaps the GT can stand more punishment.
I also wonder what the tuners can do with the GT, as I get the sense it is pretty optimized already. The 05 GT had the headroom to add power.

Year to date, Jaguar Land Rover is up 15 percent in the United States, ahead of 2016's record sales year pace.

For the month of July, Land Rover sales hit 5,915 units, the second best ever July sales month for the brand.
The Range Rover had its best July sales month since 2013 with 1,414 sales, up 21 percent from 1,164 units sold in July 2016. The Range Rover Sport was the volume leader with 1,447 units sold.
The Discovery Sport achieved its best ever sales month with 1,272 units sold, up 9 percent from 1,163 units sold in July 2016.
The 2017 Land Rover model line-up features five models: The all-new Discovery, which replaces the LR4, features a radical new design language for the full-size, optional 7 passenger seating SUV and all-new levels of refinement, passenger technology and driver assistance options. July 2017 sales report shows an increase of just 0.6% over July of 2016, almost exclusively led by Macan.
July represents the 12th consecutive month of year-over-year growth for the German sports car brand in this market, now the second-largest single-nation market for Porsche, following China. While 2016 was a good year for Porsche, their 2017 has been slightly better still, carried largely by the Macan's strong sales and to a lesser extent the staying power of the new impressive Panamera redesign. In contrast to those 2, 911, 718, and Cayenne sales are all down.
"For the 12th consecutive month, we have topped previous-year results. This is an excellent outcome. In addition, we are pleased to see the new Panamera continues to be so well received," said Klaus Zellmer, President and CEO of Porsche Cars North America.
As the July numbers state, Porsche's sports car sales represent just under a quarter of the company's sales in North America. Put another way, Porsche now sells 3 times as many SUVs as they do 911s, Boxsters, and Caymans combined. I know that I harp on this with the launch of every new monthly sales report, but I can't help but think this is the slow death of the company we love. Is Porsche leveraging their sports car history to help them hock sport utes, or am I being too cynical?
Boxster/Cayman sales are less than half of what they were just a year ago. Is this the market responding to the new car's 4-cylinder dynamic, or simply a slump in Porsche sports cars in general? "For the 12th consecutive month, we have topped previous-year results. This is an excellent outcome. In addition, we are pleased to see the new Panamera continues to be so well received," said Klaus Zellmer, President and CEO of Porsche Cars North America.
As the July numbers state, Porsche's sports car sales represent just under a quarter of the company's sales in North America. Put another way, Porsche now sells 3 times as many SUVs as they do 911s, Boxsters, and Caymans combined. I know that I harp on this with the launch of every new monthly sales report, but I can't help but think this is the slow death of the company we love. Is Porsche leveraging their sports car history to help them hock sport utes, or am I being too cynical?
Boxster/Cayman sales are less than half of what they were just a year ago. Is this the market responding to the new car's 4-cylinder dynamic, or simply a slump in Porsche sports cars in general?
