These kinds of tutorials are all over the web. That 1K homedepot spray paint isn't permanent.

It's actually not durable, and not permanent if it only lasts for 6 months.

I have tried all kinds of clear paints on headlights, and in the end, I decided to put nothing on my headlights. If they yellow, a few minutes of easy polishing with Meguiar's Ultimate Polish (virtually non abrasive) gets them smooth and clear. Polish every month. Cheapest and best solution.
No scratching up the lights with sandpaper, no coating them with "clear" paint that actually cuts the light output, especially if it has a little orange peel texture.

Never seen any product that actually works. They are all harsh or scratch the surface and make it come back worse. I agree with pman6, the best solution is good old fashion elbow grease with car wax. Do it a every month or two and things stay pretty clear.

The only real permanent solution is to have real glass headlights and if they don't make them for the car model then you're out of luck lol

The headlights on my 300zx are real glass and after 28 years, they still look clear as new and never done anything to them just wash them when I wash the car.

You need to use a 2K or 2 part clearcoat for it to last on the headlights that see a lot of sunlight/chemicals. I tried several coatings and none worked on my GS, they all started yellowing after about 2 months. I tried 2K Spraymax CC and it at least lasted over 6 months until my car was totaled, it should last years like a auto clearcoat. I sanded them to about 800grit with a light 600grit once over, at that grit it does not look like the CC is going to work but once you spray it, it will go on and make them crystal clear, mine had a very slight bluish tinge but I did not mind. I did not really sand them or try to correct any drips I had after I sprayed them because I wanted it to last but if I did more sanding and polishing it likely would have turned out better.

The problem with these chromed headlights is that the UV rays bounce off the chrome and damage the inside surface of the polycarbonate shell, yellowing it on the inside.

My 03 ES300 has gigantic headlights, with a lot of chrome surface, and no matter how much I polished and sanded, I couldn't get the yellow out.

I hope cars of tomorrow will have something stronger than gorilla glass, and can be molded into whatever shape. No more yellowing.

It would help a lot if manufacturers put the headlights on the front of the car and not ontop. Keeping the lenses from facing upward would preserve their integrity twice as long.
