i figure most critics here wouldn't be a target buyer for the car anyway...
i think it looks awesome in and out. as for the 'cheap light bar' i think the panamera is quite similar.
I'm the target buyer for the S7 and since the A7 is indicative of what the S7 will look like, my criticism is relevant. As far comparisons go, the Panamera has a much more elegant design aesthetic in my book:
The A7's rear quarter shoulder haunch line lines up to the rear lights just enough to want it to flow through, but it doesn't. The rear lights are actually higher. In design there is flow and there is contrast. Two lines must either flow enough as to be visually pleasing to the eye, or contrast enough to make a point of interest. In the case of the Panamera, the rear shoulder haunch line is interrupted at an acute angle by the rear lights. There is enough contrast and interruption to make a point of interest: that the rear of the car has now started. Interrupting the line on the Porsche gives the rear a wider appearance than it actually is, while the Audi looks more scrunched in the back. An look that is subjectively less pleasing.

well the nice thing for vw is they don't mind which you buy

LOL true. Despite being under the same umbrella I'm sure there is plenty of sibling rivalry between Porsche, Audi, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Seat, Skoda, and Bentley.
Always thought hte previous gen A7 was beautiful. This is a nice FMC. side note, my neighbor has an A7, he must have been in at least 3 accidents with it over the years, lol.
I think it's a nice evolution of the current design. I liked the B8 front ends better, but we have to move on. Judging by the new A5/S5 Sportback, it will have a great presence in person.
Meh, if Acura made the Panamera, everyone would say it’s the next Aztec.
Yup. Badge deviation of beauty perception. Porsche makes the most despicable four doors on the market, Chinese cars included, but they do it for the reason. We had a long discussion with some Audi officer back in Germany and he didn't say it directly but in innuendo he suggested Porsche did it on purpose cause their marketing suggested people would successfully associate it with 911 (Porsche) if their four dour cars had directly carried over/copied design elements from 911. Hence that's why first Cayenne had 996 front while Panamera tried to copy 911 roofline. Both ended up looking like hot feces but it's the badge and 911 resemblance that sells them. Quite clever.

Personally I think the design is pure laziness on the part of the Porsche design studio.
Anyway B.O.T. - I like the A7 but that rear overhang is monstrous....love to see a Photoshop with it slimmed down...or is that the A5 Hatch?
I prefer A5 Hatch...

What you are pointing out and annoyed over is frumpy hatchback styling and the dumpy butt syndrome, not rear overhang. They extended the greenhouse over the rear wheels more with the redesign, mimicking $9999.99, compact cars of the early 80's. The A5 Sportback looks much better with a bit more of a trunk.
