Lexus President Wants New LFA... When They Get Around To It

When the head honcho of a corporation wants something it happens. Unfortunately, we may have to wait a while before Lexus gets around to making that happen.

For an LC F, I could imagine them wanting to take a "wait and see" approach based upon the market performance of the LC. Based upon rumors of their original LC forecasts (400 per month) compared to what has been disclosed about their actuals thus far (less than 400 per month), I am not sure what they currently think.

For a new LFA, I think it depends. It is still challenging for many people to get their head around "a $100,000 Lexus". I have spent more than twice that amount on cars, and I remember first thinking "6 figures for a Lexus?" when I first read about the LC. The LFA was different at the time because it had supercar specs. The LC has... well, supertanker specs (weight)

I'm not complaining; I'm a proud LC owner. It looks the part. And I don't "stoplight race" or have any plans to track this car (I have others for that), so I don't care about the rest.

Anyway. I think their plans for upcoming or future supercars and sports cars will be dependent upon the (market) performance of their sport coupe. Just my $.02

Very well stated and I couldn't agree more. Call it wishful thinking but I've always maintained Lexus would hit a grand slam if they packaged their LFA v10 into something more attainable, e.g. an LC-F.
But if they're waiting for outstanding current sales number to justify the release of more performance-oriented cars I don't know that they'll ever get there. Maybe my perspective is skewed since the opinions I encounter are from those on these types of enthusiast boards but it seems the reason people aren't buying Lexus's current offerings in droves is because they're so far behind the Germans in terms of performance.

They are still trying to sell the original LFA.
3 units sold YTD.....

Lexus has to right the ship first with their standard cars.

La Ferrari doesn't look too live able with fixed back buckets that don't move

812 would be a lot of real world fun

To be honest, I'm excited about the LC F, but I think Lexus needs to focus on developing their next-gen drivetrains for their sedans, which are woefully out-of-date, before making another supercar. I think the LS 500 and LC 500 represent a good direction for Lexus in terms of advancing the responsiveness and efficiency of their drivetrains, what with the new TTV6 and 10-speed, and I hope that those things, or derivations of them, make their way into something like the new IS and GS, among other models perhaps.

Maybe after 2020 is when I'd expect to hear more about the new Lexus supercar.

I think a lot of that is the owner of the Lexus dealer "owning" it. IE they never wanted to really sell it, same thing has happened with some Ford GT's back in the early/mid 00's. Owner just has them roped off in the showroom, maybe drives them occasionally, they sat there for a few years.
