Not sure what type of sales figures will convince Lexus something is wrong.
I can only attribute it to two possible things:
1. Styling. It’s just not for everyone and/or people won’t buy it just because of it. This is probably worth a few percentage points in itself.
2. Ancient, slow powertrains and a sheer and utter neglect in any type of engine development that is actually “exciting.” I think this aspect weighs on Lexus’ sedans more than anything else, including any recent trends. Toyota doesn’t know engines anymore and they’re too slow to realize they’re even lacking. They need to call Yamaha again or something.

LUXURY: Mercedes closes in on another luxury sales crown
Both of the leading German luxury brands posted sales increases in November. But No. 3 Lexus had sales tumble 6.7 percent last month, falling further behind BMW for the year. Lexus finished November trailing BMW by 1,761 vehicles through the first 11 months of the year.
As the brands gear up for what is typically the luxury segment's hottest month, Mercedes-Benz USA CEO Dietmar Exler said this week that he feels "carefully optimistic" going into the home stretch.
"It's never done until it's done," Exler told Automotive News. "There's always been surprises, but it's looking good."
Mercedes posted a 1.6 percent increase in luxury sales in November, finishing with 30,363 vehicles. Volume drivers last month included the C class, GLC and GLE. Year to date, Mercedes' luxury sales are down 2 percent to 302,043 vehicles. Mercedes claimed the luxury title in 2016, taking over from BMW.
With a 7.1 percent gain in November, BMW posted its largest monthly sales increase of the year. The company credited strong results for the 5 series, X5 and X3. November marked the first month of sales for the redesigned X3, the brand's popular compact crossover. Year to date, BMW sales are down 3.2 percent to 271,432 vehicles.
It's shaping up as an anticlimactic end to the year for luxury market watchers."December generally is a big month for luxury vehicle sales and sometimes a close horse race for luxury sales crown leadership," Autotrader executive analyst Michelle Krebs said. "Such a horse race doesn't seem to exist this year. Mercedes-Benz appears to have the crown in the bag. BMW is running a distant second and Lexus, which had a tough start to the year, is running behind BMW."
Incentives for luxury brands, including lease pull-ahead programs, are already pretty hefty, Krebs said. High numbers are expected to continue in December.
Eye-popping incentives in November included $30,000 in dealer cash for the 2017 Jaguar F-Type SVR, more than $27,000 in dealer cash on the Volvo XC90 T8 Excellence and more than $10,000 in dealer cash on Lexus LS and LX models, according to Autotrader parent *** Automotive. Mercedes, BMW and Audi have been less aggressive on incentives.
Total U.S. luxury sales for November won't be available until Monday because a technical glitch kept Nissan North America from reporting sales for the Nissan and Infiniti brands.
Overall, U.S. luxury light-vehicle sales rose 0.3 percent through October and outpaced the market's overall slight decline this year. Based on the Automotive News Data Center's estimates for Infiniti's U.S. deliveries last month, U.S. luxury brand sales will remain about 0.3 percent higher through November
In addition to Mercedes and BMW, other luxury brands that posted sales increases in November were Acura, Audi, Genesis, Land Rover, Porsche and Volvo.

November 2017 Dashboardby Jeff Cobb December 4, 2017
The HybridCars.com monthly sales Dashboard is a collaboration of HybridCars.com and Baum & Associates, a Michigan-based market research firm focusing on automotive issues including the hybrid and electric vehicle market.
Overall sales for November were strong, but down from the previous two months which “enjoyed” replacement demand due to the two late summer hurricanes that hit Texas and Florida. Incentives were high which enabled a high rate of sales. All categories except diesel were up from October, while all categories were up from last November. Year-to-date, sales for each category were up with the exception of diesels.
November was a good month for battery electric vehicles, with the Bolt EV hitting another all-time high (the last three months have been between 2500 and 3000). Sales of the Model X exceeded the Model S (an unusual result), as Tesla sought to improve cash flow by focusing on high-end versions of the Model X. Production of the Model 3 continued to struggle and sales were therefore modest. It appears that some bottlenecks may break loose in December, but that may be too late for sales to be at higher levels until January. Of course, we do expect the “normal” sales increase for the Model S and X in the last month of the quarter. The Honda Clarity BEV had a good month, selling almost 500 units. The LEAF had another poor month as deals are widely available on the current model which will be replaced early in 2018 with a new model with higher range. Volumes will increase again late next year when a higher-priced higher-range model becomes available. Year-to-date, sales of the Model S are actually down from year-ago. Tesla and GM dominate the category, with over three-quarters of sales attributable to these two automakers.
The hybrid category had a “normal” month, meaning it is in line with recent results. The Prius Liftback returned to its top spot followed closely by the RAV4 and to a lesser degree, the Ford Fusion which was down from a strong October. The Prius Liftback has not fared well since its redesign, and Toyota continues to steer sales toward the Japanese market where it is a stellar performer. The Camry hybrid had a good month, and those results will continue since the underlying product and the hybrid version have benefited from the product redesign. We continue to provide actual sales for a number of new models including the Nissan Rogue and GMC Sierra, as we have recently obtained actual numbers. Volumes for the Buick Lacrosse are up and should continue to rise going forward as the mild hybrid technology is standard on most versions of the model.
The diesel segment continues to be relatively small, with the Ford Transit and the reappearance of the Ram Pickup (albeit still not fully available) leading the category. The GMC Terrain has appeared and the higher-volume Chevrolet Equinox should debut soon. While the Chevy Cruze diesel is for sales, volumes are modest and should improve in coming months.

Plug in hybrids surged from last month, and were also up from last November. The Prius Prime and Chevy Volt continued to pace the category, and both models enjoyed increases from last month. The Volt has moderated in recent months, although sales did increase in November. BMW is finding success with a range of mainstream products, namely the 3-, 5-, 7-Series, and the X5. In fact, BMW currently has the highest market share in the category, but Toyota, GM, and Ford are also major players. Production of the Ford C-Max Energi has been terminated, so sales will trail off until the inventory is gone. The hybrid category had a “normal” month, meaning it is in line with recent results.
