MM Review: 2017 Hyundai Ioniq
#46
Yes, i am very happy with it. All my previous cars have been Toyota's. My Elantra value edition (pretty well equipped) was cheaper to lease than Corolla LE which is one up from base. I suspect you will be able to find a better deal on a Ioniq than a Prius. In my case i didn't see any reason to pay more for a Corolla especially if you are leasing when long term reliability is not a priority.

Hyundai/kia has plateaued in the u.s. because of an over reliance on sedans and a ute line that isn't that competitive with much improved rav4, crv, subaru, and others. Cars like Cadenza and K900 were a huge waste of time and money. But as an auto maker, they've proved they have the skills to make quality vehicles with competitive features. Their progress with Genesis, while small in sales volume and with only 2 models, is impressive. The Stinger is an amazing new entry, but 5 door smallish coupe, while cool, won't bring in big numbers but again it shows real ability. Hopefully their acquired designers and execs will bring this to a next gen Sorrento, Santa Fe, Sedona, Tucson, etc.

The JD Powers initial quality reports have KIA as number one for last year and this year. That spot used to be reserved for Lexus. It doesn't cover everything such as durability, but it shows progress in delivering defect free new cars. As the current generation of cars and SUV's are replaced, Hyundai and KIA should become more of a factor in the US market. Genesis really needs an SUV to get their volume up. I'm impressed that they didn't just put a fancy interior into a Santa Fe and call it a Genesis.

Thank you for sharing and being honest. Elantra starts at $13,450 while Corolla starts at $18,550. The loaded Elantra turbo is at $18,550 while you are just getting into a Corolla at that point. I have been saying a few times now that the prices for Hyundai and Toyota do not align.
Do you like your Elantra?
