Default Honda resurrects Insight nameplate, goes upmarket

The rear is giving me Chevy Impala/Chrysler 300 vibes but other than that, looks solid.

It doesn't look too bad. It does remind me of the Impala.

3rd times the charm for the Insight nameplate?? Looks like an Accord front end grafted onto the Civic. Would almost be what I imagined the Civic refresh to look like, both inside and out. Surprised it wouldn't have just been called the Civic Hybrid. But I guess they feel they can better justify a slightly premium price they're targeting by having a standalone nameplate.

That roofline works so much better on a smaller car. This doesn't look too bad.

Bolted on screen in front of vents looks ludicrous but other than that, well, ok then.

Won't this overlap with the Accord hybrid?

it's like Acura's design team got fired and got a job at Honda...

Hence, I am pretty excited for future Acura vehicles.

I think (hope) it's a bit of a poor vantage point of the sketch.

In the Civic, which this is based on, the screen is laid back and comes to the lower edge

+1 i was wondering the same thing, although the accord comes to mind because the pic makes it look as big as an accord, but they already do have an accord hybrid?? but if the car is the size of the civic, to add, i think they also wanted to keep the current sporty compact sedan image of the civic i.e. CSI, CTR and be able to charge that slight premium with the insight

It's getting confusing because Honda's definitely on the hybrid bandwagon and they're using their two best platforms. Civic and Insight go together, while Accord and Clarity match up on the midsize market. Accord hybrid won't have the plug like the Clarity which is rated a 47 miles of pure ev operation.

So is this Honda's only upcoming hybrid model?? Or do we get a Civic and Accord hybrid variants off the new platforms as well?? They've done Accord and Civic hybrids in the past.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but as of 2018 model year, Honda doesn't sell a hybrid in the US market.

Really I thought the 2000 Insight was the spiritual successor to the 1980's CRX. Small, 2 seater, extremely light weight, very high MPG using the latest tech of that time period to get the best MPG. All of those describe the original CRX and the 2000 Insight.

The 4 door Insight that came in the late 00's always felt like a Prius rip off, and if the market does the talking, an inferior one which didn't sell well and was killed off after only one generation.

The overlap is confusing. The Clarity which is Accord size comes in 3 varieties: all electric, fuel cell, and plug-in hybrid. Only the plug-in hybrid will be available for sale. The others are lease only and in limited areas. The Accord hybrid is similar in size and price to the Clarity plug-in but without the extended range battery and plug-in feature. The Insight seems to be a Civic sized version of the Accord hybrid. Lots of "green" options particularly in California where all 3 versions of the Clarity are available.

This will likely be the refreshed Civic.
