Default Which generation of RX is the best offroad and why?

My guess would be either the first gen rx300 or the most recent gen rx350 because they have the most ground clearance. Not sure how they all compare with locking diffs, gearing, wheel articulation, low end torque, etc since I only own the first gen.

Second question: is the RX a lot worse off road than the LX and GX or are they close?

Probably any that have the locking diff.

Your second question is very vague. Worse in what way? One is a car based CUV and the other two are real BOF SUVs.

I edited the second question, I was still talking about off road capabilities thanks for having me clarify.

If you want off-road capabilities you won't get an RX. Completely different animal from the GX/LX. Yes, the RX is way worse off road. Depends what your definition and intended use of "off-road" is to some degree, but highly doubt anyone will say they choose the RX for any sort of true off-road usage. Especially if you're talking about locking diffs, articulation, etc.

I know, this question is more out of curiosity wondering how the different generation RX do off road. The others models are definitely better for that, I just want to know for fun

Then I'll give you an answer just for fun. The current-generation RX is probably the best one to be in off-road....the huge spindle-grille is imposing enough to scare away everything from rattlesnakes to wolves to Grizzly-bears LOL.

Ha! I like it! Yeah I'm not a huge fan of the new styling. I feel like if you hit something the whole front would explode into a million pieces. At least my 300 is super solid in that aspect.

I love the RX, but Lexus refers to the AWD system in the RX as "All Weather Drive" and that right there should be answer enough.

If by "off road" you mean "dirt road" then you'll be fine. But I would not go "4-wheeling" in one...

Yeah none of the RX line is worth a flying crap when you run out of road. Its basically a Camry station wagon on steroids, AWD, more ground clearance so you won't get stuck in deep snow like in a lower to the ground car. Buy a 4-Runner(or an older model Lexus GX without the spindle grill) if you want to go off-road, both the 4th and 5th gen(current gen) 4Runner are pretty damn civilized in terms of ride, comfort, quietness, cruising on the interstate, you don't give up much of that vs the Lexus RX. The interior quality and features is what you do give up vs the RX

NX & RX are only "light duty" off-road vehicles.

GX and LX are more "heavy duty" off-road vehicles with 2-piece ladder-on-frame chassis construction, and FT 4WD.

For super heavy duty, try these CATs.

If you are planning a 1 way trip any RX will do.

RX is a lifted Camry that has AWD mode if it senses loss of traction.

GX/LX are serious off road trucks that will pretty much take you anywhere off road within reason.

Our 2010 RX350 has seen many sand excursions on the OBX. Ground clearance can be an issue, but I've driven far inferior machinery on the OBX in my many years of visiting.

Necromaxing.....

That said the best one is the cheapest one you can buy so you can fill send it and not care. They all will perform poorly since they are just Camry based SUVs with "eh" AWD systems.
