I think they should have just given the 4th gen a facelift, and then stuck that new interior in it. Probably would be more successful.

This is one of the longest running designs, so it makes sense that they changed it up quite a bit. Ford and Chevy both redesigned their half-tons twice in that period.
I guess RAM had a slight facelift in 2013 but you can't tell the difference unless you look very very closely.

Come on though...toyota runs the tacoma for a decade or more. The last gen tacoma was 2005-2016 with only minor facelifts. Granted, its not a full size but...
tundra gets a similar treatment.
ford ran the 04 F150 design straight through to 2015 with only 1 redesign and it was minor, in 2009.
gm can't seem to sell trucks half as fast as ram or a quarter as fast as ford without fleet sales padding their numbers so they throw paint at the wall till they find a design that people like.
Ram ran the 4th gen from 2009 to 2019 and facelifted in 2013. 2013 brought new trim levels, and additional features.
The 3rd gen ran from 02-08 with a facelift in 06, the 2nd gen ran 1994 to 2001. The 4th gen ran the longest of all of them, but still not as long as Toyota or Ford.
The 2019 Ram is a radical departure from the norm at Ram, and what they were doing (since 2009) was working. Not sure it will now. While i agree the redesign was due, it would have been better to do what i said (5th gen interior in a 4th gen body) than to do a total redesign to a truck that looks radically different and much less appealing, and putting one of the most beautiful interiors in the industry into it.

I can remember doing a write-up on the 2007 Tahoe, and how much better both the interior was than the 2006, and how much better the brakes were than the previous Push-and-Pray ones were.

OK, I think I finally placed what made these trucks look so off to me, and it's largely easily fixable. It's the factory wheels, they're so tacky. Throwing some better wheels on there really improves it, as well as avoiding the chrome-heavy trims(an odd switch as the 4th Gen Rams typically did chrome better than the competition).
