forrester is a cuv not a station wagon.
tree hugger outback buyers all live in oregon and vermont. kidding, but from sales figures looks like outback and forrester sell about in equal numbers which is very impressive for the outback, but it has a long reputation and history and loyal owners/buyers. as i think you know, i had a legacy wagon decades ago, the predecessor to the outback.

Outbacks, of course, despite their image and stereotype, are popular with more than just tree-huggers and skiers. There's a million of them, for example, old and new, running around the D.C. area here where I live. They popular with people from many walks of life.
IMO, the Forester straddles the line between what would be considered a CUV and a raised-suspension wagon like the Outback. Both today's Forester and Outback, of course, are considerably larger than they were back when each debuted in the 1990s.
stumbled upon this website (a guy in holland!) for sales numbers... great resource.

The first generation Forester may have been lower and straddled the line but the current generation Forester is a CUV. A picture is worth a thousand words. Nothing 'wagon' about it other than 4-doors and a hatch. If you believe the above is a wagon then EVERY CUV and SUV in the market is a wagon by your definition. The denial needs to stop.

Denial on my part? LOL.
Frankly, I don't happen to be one of them, but there are those, even in the auto industry, who don't even consider unibody crossover AWD vehicles to be SUVs to start with. That goes a little further than I would classify it, but, with them, it is a reality.

It's not aimed at Subaru or Audi buyers. This is Buick trying to get a bit of the Volvo wagon market. Volvos have a wagon heritage from a long time ago. You undercut the Chinese made Volvo and tell potential buyers you have a German wagon for less money, maybe you get some sales. You get awd and a V6 vs the Volvo's starting point. The Volvo offers a plug in hybrid, which would really help the Buick if they did that too.
No need for painting after you buy it to cover up the wheel well cladding. It's included for free.

Possibly. An interesting comparison you make to the V60...except that high-end AWD versions of the V60 have a significantly higher base price than even the top-line Tour-X. Also, all of the Volvos, by the company's own announcement, are going to be made into hybrids inside of two years..that's not going to be the case with Buicks.
