MM Full-Review: 2018 Ford EcoSport
#16
I wonder what a loaded Ecosport, loaded Trax, and a loaded Encore all go for?
Edit: Looks like the Encore can get up to $30K while the Ford tops out at $27K

not much of a descrepency. It could be cross-shopped if folks felt they could spend an extra thousand or two for the more premium Encore interior.

A chance to look over the review. A fair review.

It's got its share of faults (I listed them)...but I wouldn't call it a piece of junk. It's just basic transportation, for the most part......though I was surprised to see the rather low-priced SE version I sampled have multi-stage heated seats (forgot to mention that in the review).
It will be interesting to see how Consumer Reports rates it. I don't think that they have tested it yet.....but they are, in general, rather hard on small underpowered vehicles in this class.

Yup. Pretty stupid idea. But it was not designed for NA from the start, so it has it because it’s built for Asian markets.
ashamed because where it’s built?

It has the cargo area barn door for the same reason that the old RAV4 had a barn door -- to allow the door to carry a spare tire. A top-hinged hatch would not be able to carry a spare tire. Having the option of 2 different rear doors on one vehicle -- one side-hinged barn door and another top-hinged hatch -- is an engineering nightmare.

Perhaps, but subcompact crossovers are the coming fashion trend -- everyone has one (Chevy Trax, Toyota C-HR, Honda HR-V, Nissan Juke / Kicks) so Ford cannot afford to not have one. And they prove (with higher MSRPs than subcompact and compact cars) to be very profitable also.

I think Ford hasn't quite eliminated the problem of them essentially being 2 different automakers...Ford Trucks and Ford Cars. It seems like the guys behind the trucks do a lot more to try and make a serious contender...and the guys behind cars and CUVs are phoning it in, probably knowing that's all that Ford wants for those markets.

Funny, it's not in this pic...

Trax, Renegade already are domestic branded vehicles in the Subcompact Utility segment. Ford is late to the game, if not last. Even slow-going Toyota was able to bring C-HR to the U.S. faster (although without AWD and without a lot of trims and options).
