Didn't I just say what you inferred.......that they would, in fact, cross-shop? Please read before venting.
You have made it clear that you believe the Trax and Ecosport do not compete in the same segment? Therefor, they would not get cross shopped, This is what has everyone wondering as to why, despite evidence pointing otherwise.

Never heard that one before.
I dunno, squint hard enough and the Encore looks like a potato on wheels.
The engine in the Trax is good for 138HP and 148 lb-ft of torque. The Ecosport gets 120hp/125lb-ft in the 1L and 140hp/140lb-ft in the 2L engine. I would say the engine options are comparable.

The sizes are also 99% identical. MSRP is pretty much the same as well.
IMO, it’s a lot of money for these small vehicles. How much do you realistically think one can carry.
Sad. Car brands such as Ford and GM should not be importing from India and even worse China.
what do you have against india and china?

guys, the trax is 6" longer than the ecosport which in these small vehicles is significant. i acknowledge though that they apparently have similar interior space somehow which is odd.
but please stop trying to prosecute mmarshall on this... and just agree to disagree.

Nothing odd about it. The wheelbase is the most important part, they are nearly identical. The extra 6" in total length is the combination of the bumper overhangs. You yourself have always pointed out how Lexus's have huge overhangs vs its competitors. In this case, the Trax simply has a few more inches front and back that makes its total length bigger than the EcoSport.
I thought the Chevy Trax was the American answer to the CUV, and that rear door does remind me a whole lot of the older RAV4 and the 1st/2nd gen CR-V before Honda decided to use a conventional hatch. Why did Ford decide to use a swing-out tailgate - would it be more expensive to tool for different markets?
yes from the pics i can see the trax bumper sticks out and the ecosport, well, basically looks unsafe to me.
It meets DOT/NHTSA requirements, or else it wouldn't be on sale here. For those who want the ultimate in safety, there is always Volvo and Mercedes, though, of course, they can run some $$$$$. It's also noteworthy that the Ecosport uses the Roll-Safety System, with body-lean sensors, that Volvo originally developed for its own SUVs.....Ford, of course, got the rights to it when they owned Volvo. That's different from (and goes beyond) the ordinary VSC stability control, which uses only steering-input/response sensors.
Got my $50 gift-card yesterday from Ford for the EcoSport test-drive, although, of course, I don't do reviews just for incentives like that. But, if they are there, it's nice to use them at Starbucks, for their fresh-ground French Roast (darn, that's good stuff) . I get a bag of it and brew it at home, with a touch of creamer and honey. Makes my mornings.
