Genesis Coupe Concept

I don't think that's the SUV they are refering to, bit. We know Genesis has a larger GV80 SUV in the works. In saying why wasn't the money spent on an SUV rather then a concept coupe, the reference is to a new, smaller SUV to compete with potential rivals like the Lincoln MKC, Audi A3, BMW X3, Buick Envision, and the upcoming Cadillac XT4. That's were Genesis, in several of our opinions (including mine) would have been wise to spend the money they did on this coupe-concept.

Genesis has already committed to 2 SUVs (Mid and Near Lux) and a coupe by 2020
With a potential 3rd SUV coming in 2021. So they're definitely on the move.
The pictures in the original post are from the Hyundai HND-9 Concept car shown back in 2013. The Genesis coupe has been shelved due to the move to the Genesis brand. So it will likely get re-imagined, maybe borrowing more from the Vision G concept that is a bit more recent.

Surely they have the resources to work on more than one new model at a time. While it won't generate anything near SUV type sales, a coupe will no doubt help to round out the developing model line.
It's not like the SUV isn't being worked and I don't see anything that states that working on this coupe has slowed down the SUV timeline.

no doubt they're working on many things but with 2 sedans and no suvs and a hot suv market, it would be stupid for that not to be the priority, but coupes do add to image if not much sales.

They are a mixed bag for me. I like the Q70, but will wait final judgement until I see one in real life. I like the style of the G80 but it needs to drop 600 lbs before I'd consider one. I find the G90 quite unattractive and out of place with the G70 and G80.

Actually coupe number sales are pretty decent in the US, muscle cars like you said have very big sales but entry level luxury coupes like the 4 series, A5, RC, Q60, and some others sell pretty well too, problem is when there are not many coupes offered anymore which is what has happened these days then of course there will be less sales.
Actually that design is pretty old, it was shown around 2015 from the searching I did.

You don't think the G80 and G90 are good looking? I think the G80 is one of the best looking cars in its segment, the interior could use a little work. The G90 looks better in person on the road then pictures and has a very nice interior now. They have some nice designs, I have not seen a G70 in person so won't comment on it until I see one.
