Default German police raided BMW HQ today

It's such a degree of seriousness that these matters are treated with over there....sometimes I wish we would do the same here in the USA.....

Couldnt come up with a better excuse than used the "wrong" update? What else did they do wrong by "accident" on the rest of the car?

Sounds like cheat software they were keeping the wraps on ended up being installed.

It's not that easy for regular police to just bust their way in, *****-Nilly. Companies as large as BMW often have their own police force, which guard their plants and important buildings.

My guess that the police used the excuse of emissions to cover what they were really there for, to stop the terrible styling of the cars of late.

First it was Volkswagen with the dieselgate, then it's Mercedes-Benz cheating emissions, and now it's BMW. I question why German automakers felt the need to alter their software just to get their cars into the market. Even then German cars are not known for reliability with their fair share of engine and electrical issues.

I wonder why people still buy German cars.

LOL and poor steering. I've seen the comparisons of the BMW marque being the equivalent of Apple. It takes an awful lot to damage their image (Apple slowed down phones, then turned around and charged said owners of phones $30 to get them back up to snuff, with a wait list and an apology for doing that). BMW can pretty much get away with it too (remove features, charge more, even the buyer is happy). I will give them this credit, however, it is amazing how they are willing to give owners open-ended loaners, when no parts are available during a recall (I had a brand new car for 4+ mos. during Takata). For a heater blower motor, I didn't even want one, that's really pushing it, yet some have had loaners for months because of it! Who knows maybe if I had a larger driveway I would have taken one.

Well now we know why German cars outperform almost everybody in performance. I wouldnt be surprised if similar cheats are being applied to their gas powered cars with their surprising dyno numbers.

Same reason someone would buy Apple, there are intangibles. imho from 1995 to 2008 maybe 2010, the way a BMW felt on the road was tangible. I'm sure everyone here saw that YouTube where the LS500 beat the S550 with the AMG line or whatever. I emailed it to my buddy and he was like wow, I didn't know Lexus could beat MB in every way. Then I told him Lexus paid for that and he laughed....

I'm just imagining PMCs like the ones you would see in The Expendables, all paramilitary and stuff.

Well, no, it's not movie-entertainment extreme, but, in real life, even the regular police often can't just bust their way into a plant or complex that size. They have to stop, show a warrant or other state-approved authorization for a search, and explain why they want in. BMW, as with most large organizations, has a highly-paid security force of their own, and they are paid to do just that...secure the premises.

Are you suggesting that the German police just busted their way in to BMW HQ without having gone through the required due diligence, and then stood toe-to-toe and eye-to-eye with BMW's own security guards? Come on, you only see that in bad Hollywood movies.

A standoff like this does seem highly unlikely.

No, of course not.....as you noted, that happens (mostly) in films. That was also the point I was trying to make. But, at the same time, police, in most cases, unless they are raiding a place with armed, dangerous criminals, can't just go right in unannounced, either.

Anyhow, perhaps we are getting off-topic (yes, me included). The real issue is what the police were after.....company documents.

I know where I am employed, our security staff is ex state police. I once told the former head of security that listen, I have watched many years of Law and Order, and I am fairly certain I would be able to stand up to any interrogation you clowns could administer (we know each other well). He said seriously, I highly, highly, doubt that you could. Visions of Casino and Don Rickles did enter my mind, but I reiterated what I said. And I am pretty sure I could (from experience).

Anyway, this is Europe, not the USA, so my over/under says BMW is guilty. Also, they have a higher degree of "doing what's right" or "shame" than many US cos. would, in the same position.
