Alfa Romeo 8C and GTV slated for revival

Exciting stuff
8C was bizarrely high priced for a cool looking and sounding but weak performing version of the Maserati Coupe
i hope they don’t look for $300k for this car
i wonder if the GTV will basically be a 2 door Guilia with hotter performance
i believe they also mentioned doing an all electric alfieta with 0-60 of 2 sec to directly go at Tesla

There is no way in hell they will be able to pull off 8C with NSX like drivetrain and not end up with a clunker. Absolutely no way cause they don't have enough time. In order to pull that off the car must have been in development for quite some time now and just over a year ago FCA was all against electrification. Suddenly they are all about PHEVs and EVs and according to the "2022 Plan" they will beat Toyota in EV production. That's only possible if they reskin some of the generic EV setups already available which still doesn't explain 8C considering there is only one like car on the market which is NSX. It took Honda 10 years to develop that powertrain and they even made a test bed out of RLX to make sure it works right. Sure FCA can make 8C with like NSX setup but it will be plain unrefined and terrible.

Interesting point and to your point, the recent 8C pretty much is a clunker, especially for Ferrari 458 money when new
I own a 2017 NSX and can confirm it delivers power and transitions amongst ICE/Hybrid/Electric modes pretty seamlessly
Some of the 10 year gestation was due to plan a, do an new looking transverse mid engine NSX with tepid power, followed by plan b, do a cheaper version of an LFA, followed by plan c, do a moderately powerful transverse mid engine, followed by plan d, do a really powerful longitudinal mid engine hybrid

That may have been a marketing move. Read it as "We are working on electrification but it is difficult. We will release them when we are ready but don't expect them anytime soon.".
Toyota did something similar with EVs until last fall when they suddenly announced that they had perfected the solid state battery and were busy commercializing it.
GM did something similar with aluminum in its pickup trucks. They talked down the aluminum Ford F-Series pickup trucks but now have aluminum in their newly-introduced next-generation pickup trucks.
