Your example doesn't support your view too much, Mark Zuckerberg is super super rich person, he doesn't need any car to show his succeed, instead, he can drive a main stream car to show his humbleness like Buffet.
If you watch MSNBC show "super rich", you will see most of them spend unbelievable amount of $$ for privacy and hobbit.

I don't think a not having a V8 will hurt Lexus LS sales. Because the Lexus LS TTV6 holds itself pretty well against the Germans.
According to Lexus, MB, and BMW website - their official 0-60 numbers:
Lexus LS: 4.6 seconds
S450: 5.4 seconds
740i: 5.4 seconds
S560: 4.6 seconds
750i: 4.6 seconds (4.3 w/ xDrive)
Basically - the Lexus LS with a TTV6 is only slower than the M760i and S63/S65 AMG and has a better average MPG than the competition.

I think that's a pretty good feat considering it has no V8 trim. Hopefully they add an LS-F that can compete with the M760i and S63/S65 AMG.
I think the main problem is the "sporty" styling is not sitting well with some people and the average consumer can't look pass the badge.
I have not seen any reviews duplicate that LS500 0-60 number of 4.5 sec, the few that have done tests that I have read got 0-60 in 5.0 seconds and 5.3, 5.2 which is decent but slower then competitors 8 cylinders.

The issue is other competitors also offer 8 cylinders that are quicker with more power, the S class 8 cylinder was standard for the first 2 or 3 years and it has 449hp, tests/reviews show it does in fact do 0-60 in 4.5 to 4.8 sec and you can go to higher spec trims with 500+hp and 0-60 under 4 sec, BMW 750 has 445hp and does 0-60 in 4.2-4.3 secs with awd in tests/reviews and there are quicker options. It is not just about 0-60, the 8 cylinders are smoother, more refined, make better noises, etc. Maybe Lexus has a 8 cylinder on the way for the LS, hopefully it is not some specialty engine/version that pushes the price to over 100K no matter what trim level and it is a upgrade for a reasonable amount or else the LS could suffer being mainly 6 cylinder only compared to the competitors that all offer regular 8 cylinder options.
