The interesting thing with GC and ML is that last gen GC rode on unibody with solid rear axle, and ML for several generation was a BOF with IRS - both very atypical.

That's probably because Jeep products are more likely to be taken off-road than an ML. Although some IRS designs have some off-road capability, solid rear axles, in general, are more durable.

The ML was only body on frame for its first generation. 2nd gen moved to Unibody.

Current/Outgoing Grand Cherokee, 2011 through current model year, has independent front and rear suspensions
