2019 Volvo S60
#16
Say hello to the all-new 2019 Volvo S60. With it, Volvo says goodbye to its last link to Ford ownership, the current S60 having been around since 2010. The 2019 sedan will be produced at Volvo's first U.S. factory, in Charleston, South Carolina. It will be the first Volvo produced in the U.S. after 63 years as an import. The U.S. plant is expected to build 60,000 S60s per year, about half destined for export. The S60 will also be the first Volvo not to offer a diesel, Volvo going with two standard gas engines and two gas hybrids.
An entry-level T5 trim will use the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder offering around 250 horsepower. Next up, the supercharged and turbocharged T6 trim will bring around 316 hp. A plug-in hybrid version of the T6 will bump output to 340 hp and adds all-wheel drive, and the penultimate T8 model will crank out 400 hp to all four wheels. At the top of the range, the T8 worked over by Polestar Engineering gets a tweaked ECU plus upgraded suspension, wheels, and brakes, for 415 hp in the U.S. and roughly 500 pound-feet of torque. There could be a wait for that last trim, with Volvo saying, "The S60 Polestar Engineered will be available in extremely limited quantities, and exclusively through the Care by Volvo app in the App Store." Volvo also released details on S60 pricing and Volvo's subscription plan.
So far, we're expecting a handsome mix of V60 and S90 design cues, the sedan looking like a V60forward of the B-pillar, with C-shaped S90 taillights. One outlet has said the S60 will be larger and narrower than before, with more room inside for people and luggage. The interior design and safety system templates established on the XC90 find homes here, updated with oncoming-collision braking for City Safety and an optional Pilot Assist with better cornering. We'll know more later today after we've had a chance to inspect the four-door in person.

Volvo Care Subscription

Today, in addition to opening its first U.S. plant and revealing the new Volvo S60, the Swedish automaker announced pricing for the car, including for the optional subscription plan. We also have the breakdown of powertrains and trim levels available at launch.
The S60 will offer three powertrains right away. The T5 will only be offered in front-wheel drive, with the turbocharged E-Drive engine providing 250 horsepower. The T6 will be all-wheel-drive, and its turbocharged and supercharged engine offers 316 horsepower. The AWD T8 plug-in hybrid offers a total of 400 horsepower. The S60 will be offered in three trim levels: Momentum, R-Design and Inscription.
So let's break down the price. The base S60 is the T5 Momentum, which starts at $36,795 (including a $995 destination charge). The T5 R-Design costs $42,895, while the T5 Inscription costs $43,895.
The T6 starts at $41,295 for the Momentum trim level. The T6 R-Design is priced at $46,395. The T6 Inscription goes for $48,395.
The T8 PHEV doesn't offer a Momentum trim. Both the T8 R-Design and T8 Momentum are priced at $55,395.
Three versions of the S60 will be available through the Care by Volvo subscription service. The S60 T6 Momentum will cost $755 a month. That includes the Premium and Multimedia Packages, and linear lime wood inlays. That will be available in eight paint colors and two interior options.
The S60 T6 AWD R-Design can be had for $850 a month. That model will include the Premium and Multimedia Packages, sport suspension, 19-inch R-Design wheels, Nappa leather sport seats, and seven paint choices.
The third subscription option will be the S60 T8 Polestar, the pricing for which will be announced later. It offers 415 horsepower and 494 pound-feet torque, Öhlins suspension, Brembo brakes with gold calipers, a Polestar strut brace and 19-inch forged alloy wheels. For now, the 2019 model year S60 T8 Polestar will only be offered through Care by Volvo, and Volvo also notes that it will be offered in "extremely limited quantities."
The Care by Volvo subscription offers two-year terms with an option to switch cars and start the term clock over after 12 months. It includes 24/7 customer care and roadside assistance, all maintenance and replacement of wear items (wipers, brakes, tires), as well as insurance through Liberty Mutual.
The S60 orders and subscriptions begin today. The S60 T8 Polestar will be available come June 28. Deliveries for purchases and traditional leases are scheduled for Q4 of this year.

Beautiful car IMO. Looks exactly as I expected it to look- elegant, simple yet refined, great presence, nice stance on those wheels, and a nice interior.
Out of curiosity, on the first interior pic that shows the gauges, it appears the car is going 68km/hr. What is the "75" representing below that read-out (above the green steering wheel icon)? Distance to the car in front of you? Speed that car in front of you is traveling? Speed limit?

Thanks for posting all the pics Hoov! I'm really liking the current Volvo designs. They're taking the same sausage, different lengths thing a little further than most, but it seems to be working well for them!

very reasonably priced. aggressive price
as other carmakers downsize their engines, they need to take note of how Volvo designs their FWD, and bring back the old days of wheel-dash distance.
i hate when they don't disclose the measurements. How long is this thing?
if the s90 is 200", I imagine this has to be about the size of an accord at least.

FWD is fine if you do not care about FWD vs RWD, but then, by providing this greater dash-to-axle ratio, Volvo has to waste space behind the front-mounted engine and transmission, in order to provide that extra length. If this Volvo is the length of the Accord, it will not be as space-efficient as the Accord. I would rather have the most cabin space for the footprint of the car than to waste it in the engine compartment.

But that hides the fact that it is a FWD car. A FWD car will never be able to compete with the German (BMW and Mercedes-Benz) and Japanese (Infiniti and Lexus) RWD models.

and the awd options for the car should make this quite the performer.
its proportions remind me of an old acura legend sedan (i had one).

and the subscription plans sound awesome... makes is very simple for people.
between subscriptions and self-driving cars, the notion of car 'ownership' will dwindle in the coming years to near nothing.

I've heard the subscription program is having nothing but problems - most of them being insurance related. Growing pains I guess
