I'm anxious to see this sedan. I've been researching the new V60 wagon as a stylish alternate to a CUV.

Wasn't Volvo on record saying all 2019+ models will be hybrid or electric?

I think I saw that somewhere. As I understand it, in the U.S. the V60 initially will come with the regular 2.0t and the supercharged/turbocharged engine.

"All cars released after 2019 will have this [electrified internal-combustion models, including diesels]."

I did some searching and this is the clearest interpretation of this issue that I could find.

When you look at it like that, Volvo’s announcement was not especially eye-popping.

In fact, as [Henrik Green, Senior Vice President Research & Development] admitted, industry-standard seven-year production cycles mean it will phase out the last of its pure internal-combustion models by 2023 or 2024, at the earliest. Not internal-combustion models, mind you, but non-electrified internal-combustion models, including diesels.

“All cars released after 19 will have this powertrain and of course we will sell already homologated cars after that. Of course there will be an overlap,” Green said.

It isn't 2019 yet, so Volvo does not have to introduce an electrified S60. This is my take on the issue.

Volvo has hit home runs with everything since the XC90. This will look great.

Maybe Volvo will be doing 48-volt electrical like FCA, Audi, Benz etc..

Might be unclear, though, whether all those models will actually be hybrid/electric, or simply offer it as an option.

I believe so. It looks like an easy choice to make for a small automaker like Volvo. More and more autoparts suppliers are jumping on the bandwagon to provide mild-hybrid solutions like the 48-volt system. Buy a plug-and-play system off the shelf and avoid having to spend precious R&D funds to design your own system.

No. All Volvo cars from 2019 onwards will have an electric motor.

Volvo Cars is taking a bold lead with electrification in the auto industry. As the first major premium car brand to commit to a hybrid or full-electric powertrain for all our models, we will drive the automotive sector forward, improve the quality of the air in our cities and increase our success as a business.

2025

50% of Volvo Cars’ sales volume to be fully electric by 2025.

1 million

Volvo Cars has committed to putting one million electrified cars on the road by 2025.

Every new Volvo car launched from 2019 onwards will have an electric motor. This ambitious announcement shows that at Volvo Cars we dare to take the lead and embrace a cleaner mobility. It underlines our commitment to reducing the environmental impact of our products, and to improving air quality in our cities. And, most of all, it shows that we listen to our customers and their needs.

The S90 is an attractive vehicle IMO so I'm sure the S60 will look great. Saw a new wagon (V60 I think) on the road the other day and it looked very nice as well. Volvo has stepped up their game.

they will be mild hybrids, yes... weather thats 48v, we dont know yet, not sure if they introduced any yet? Most they sell around here is diesels and their sales dropped recently in EU due to drop of diesel sales.

They do have their PHEV T8 engines. Not available across the range in the US though. I'd love to drive a V90 or V60 with the T8, but in the US they're limited to the S90, XC60/90
