Would you buy a hail-damaged vehicle?

I'm assuming the question means you are saving some money by getting damaged goods? In general, no. Especially in the car business, it is difficult to "take advantage" of anybody, when you are the buyer. The only time that happens is when someone doesn't realize what they have. Like you have these old tools in a pewter like looking box, so because they are old, you slap a pricetag of $5 on it. That's how I got some 1957 Snap On 1/4" tools. Old didn't mean bad in that case. Hail damage means bad. So if they gave you $2000 off, likely it should have been 6.
Put it this way--anytime you are thinking you are getting a good deal by purchasing damaged or stolen goods, pretend those guys on Pawn Stars are selling them to you.

Carbon-fiber doesn't dent, but it cracks.
The best idea, IMO, was Saturn's thermoplastic side-body panels of the 1990s. Outside of paint scratches, they were almost impervious to any kind of damage short of being hit with a freight locomotive LOL.
This is not a doctored video....I remember doing it myself, with a baseball bat, at the D.C. auto show, in response to an invitation from the Saturn reps there.

Those panels crack and break especially in very cold weather. I still see a few Saturn's on the road with holes in the fenders. BTW the subframe the panels are attached to are metal and rust badly. Interesting idea but ultimately not worth the trouble.

New car, HELL NO!!!! I'm paying top $$$$ for something I want to be perfect, that's my perception, I'm not paying good $$$$, even if discounted for damaged goods.
For an old work truck for cheap, hell yeah who cares if its beat up if the price is right. I owned this hunk of junk for 5 years, gave me great service.

Well, almost anything will weaken with age...including the plastic used in those panels. The very newest of those plastic-body Saturns was built some 15 years ago...and some could date back as far as 1990.
You are correct on the sub-frame...they were very strong, and provided good crash protection, but, being metal, could also corrode.
