Default Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign

50th anniversaries with 710 horsepower

It's the first car developed together by Nissan and Italdesign

When car companies celebrate anniversaries, the results can be a bit underwhelming, such as the paint and badge job Chevy put together for its truck anniversary. The Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign is not one of those vehicles. It's a custom GT-R based on a GT-R NISMO featuring unique bodywork from the famed Italian design company. It's the first time Italdesign has worked with Nissan, and perhaps they should work together more often. The GT-R50 has a lower nose, a lower roof, and wider fenders. It's one of the meanest-looking GT-Rs yet.

It has performance to backup the looks, too. The normal GT-R's twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V6 has been supplemented with big turbos from the GT3-class race car, along with bigger intercoolers, more aggressive cams and beefier internals including the pistons, rods, bearings and crankshaft. Combined, they allow the V6 to produce 710 horsepower and 575 pound-feet of torque. That's an increase of 110 horsepower and 94 pound-feet over the regular GT-R NISMO.

Nissan made sure the rest of the car was ready for all the extra power, too. The differentials and axles are stronger to ensure nothing breaks when launching. Brembo six-piston brakes sit up front with four-piston units in the rear to stop the beast, and a Bilstein active suspension helps it corner.

Finally, the interior was updated to make it as special as the Italdesign exterior. Everything inside was designed by Nissan's U.S. and London design teams. It features loads of carbon fiber, Alcantara, and gold accents. The latter helps tie things together with the gold elements on the exterior.

No plans for a production version of the GT-R50 have been announced. Nissan also emphasized that this is not a preview of the next generation GT-R. It's just a special celebration of the model and the design company.

Lol, those pics make it really hard to tell if the external updates look good or not. That day-glo digital dash looks interesting in a throw back sorta way.

Dont worry, it doesn’t look that good anyway. There were better pics on the GTR forum. They need to kill the R35 anyway, so old.

It still smokes anything made by Lexus and dozens of other late model cars costing thousands more. The car is a beast. You got to give credit when it is due.

I agree it does smoke anything Lexus has but the R35 is so long in the tooth now. It is still an amazing car but with the price they are at right now they should have made bigger updates than they have. For example, when their dct tranny first came out is was amazing but they haven’t updated it since it debuted and other dct transmissions have surpassed it. The fact it is over $100k msrp is absurd.

Nice! It looks like this car borrowed some styling bits from the 2020 Vision Concept like the front air dam vertical dividers and the almost standalone quad tail lights :

Default The 50th anniversary GT-R still looks like a dream

The final design for a production Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign is done, and Nissan has officially opened the order books for the limited-run vehicle. Thankfully, the production version is just as stunning as the prototype because Nissan didn't change much of anything.

This blue/gold color combination shown here is but an example of what a customer could special order for the 50th anniversary GT-R — you can have whatever you want. Interior colors and packages will be completely customizable as well. The base price for the GT-R50 is $1,126,799 converted from Euros — and that's before you add any options. That number is over $100,000 more than the first estimate Nissan gave us back in July of this year. We don't imagine that price increase will bother any of the über-rich who plan to buy one of these anyway.

Nissan didn't specify any change in performance from what it revealed to us at its debut. The car is essentially a GT-R Nismo with all the bodywork done by Italdesign. The 3.8-liter V6 gets the larger turbos from Nissan's GT3-class race car, beefier internals, more aggressive cams and larger intercoolers. All this allows it to make an extra 110 horsepower and 94 pound-feet of torque over your run-of-the-mill GT-R Nismo.

Stronger differentials and axles are fitted to better handle hard launches. Bigger six-piston Brembo brake calipers up front and four-piston clampers in the rear bring it all to a stop, while active Bilstein dampers soak up the bumps.

There are only 50 set for world production
