Default Ford is vague- but says $11 billion overhaul needed

I wonder what this brand will be, if anything, ten years from now. All I can say with 100% certainty is they better hope whatever market data they're using to make recent decisions is right.

corporate grease pan translation : we are spending $11 billion on self driving and electric cars, we don't know how to do it or why but all we know is we have to because everybody is doing it as well.

And this is why Ford can't make $$$$ selling $13k Festivas, 16k Focus or $20-22k Fusion cars. Because we have to invest in "future tech" that might be a total bust. Although I think the problem is a bit more complex than that, why sell a sedan at 22k when you can sell a crossover at 25k that costs the same $$$$ to build. $3000 instant profit for a vehicle that sells better anyways, at least that is the Ford think right now. Also Ford did such a colossal **** up with this generation of compact cars and their junk/slippy transmissions, it probably turned an entire generation of customers off of Ford new cars. I mean you make cars that don't even have what 99% of the population consider a "correctly functioning automatic transmission" and expect them to buy another Ford, yeah maybe you are right to just cut your losses and say **** those couple million customers that bought 2010+ automatic Festiva or Focus.

IMO, Ford also could take that 11B and simply invest all or part of it in better quality control for their vehicles. Sloppy workmanship does NOT affect all of their products by any means...the 2018 Edge Sport I recently wrote up, last week, on a static review, was very impressively-built inside and out, and used some nice materials inside. But I have not been impressed with the way that most of the Escapes, Lincoln MKC, Lincoln MKZ, Focus, Fiesta, and some other Ford products have recently been built.
