Default Purchase CPO CT200h or lease new IS 300 F sport

Hey everyone, sorry I didn’t know which forum to post this in - I was looking for a General Lexus forum but couldn’t really find such thing:

My wife needs a new car now (her Honda lease is up) and I can’t decide between 2 options:

2015 Lexus CT 200h F sport (no nav) - 24,000 miles for $25.7k OTD

or

2018 Lexus IS 300 F sport for $380/mo for 36 month lease.

We really want the new Lexus UX but the timing doesn’t work for us as it’s not available til December. I was thinking of leasing the IS because in 3 years we could buy a CPO UX.

Leasing an IS for 380/mo for 36 mo = $13400 and then buying a CPO Lexus UX in 3 years would in total cost $38400 (I’m estimating a used UX would be $25,000 for 30k miles). So in 6 years from now we would have a 66k mile car (assuming 12k per year). I’m using 6 years into the future as an arbitrary timeline.

However we also know the CT is a great car (we’ve leased one before), albeit discontinued and a lot older. The total cost in 6 years would be $25700 and I’m estimating the car would have 96,000 miles.

So which is a better decision? Thanks!!

NX perhaps if you want an SUV? Unless you have to have small vehicles.

I’d much rather have the IS.

Based on the math and timelines you’ve provided I’d go with the IS F sport.

If your budget is tight, go for a Toyota Prius (it's should be better than Lexus CT, I bought a CT before, which is the worst and most regretfle purchase ever)
otherwise, go for IS.

I leased a CT due to being unsure if it was something I wanted long-term, and it turned out to be my biggest regret too! I had someone take over the lease shortly thereafter. I have had the IS200t (re-branded as the IS300) as a loaner many times and haven't been impressed by it. I had a 2001 IS300 and a 2006 IS350, but not a fan of the newest generation. Why isn't the NX on your radar? You could for sure lease that for the same price as the IS or even buy a certified one for a reasonable amount.

Another option outside of Lexus would be to look at the Mazda CX-5. You can lease them for roughly $300/month for one that's fully loaded and they beat out the NX in almost all aspects. I just convinced my friend to buy one. He was looking at the NX, but once he drove the CX-5 and saw the value, he couldn't believe he even considered the NX.

Keep in mind, the IS 200t or 300 RWD has the turbo four-cylinder, so it's just not going to be quite as refined as the six-cylinder models. I am not exactly in love with that engine either - drove it in the NX 300 and found it to be responsive in "normal" driving but kinda gutless when you want to punch it. However, it should get considerably better fuel economy compared to the V6s. OP, are you looking at the RWD (sometimes called "Turbo") model?

You could not pay me to take a CT--so I vote IS.

If you want a UX and cannot wait for its debut, have you looked at the NX? It does not offer the comfort or refinement of the RX, but sells for a significantly lower price.

Having said that, like the comments from other posters, I was not impressed with the CT, either. IMO it should have been marketed as a Toyota, not a Lexus.
