Yea, pretty much . All the long term testers the magazines have show signs of being built prior to the May 2018 updates. Hatch rattle and stereo fading to rear were the two biggest issues that were seen.

I stated earlier that I had a faint intermittent hatch rattle in this cold weather and mine was built May 2018. The few days it warmed up to over 50 degrees, the rattle was gone. So not really concerned at all. Nearing 9K and still believe this is a very solid built car.

In the rental world that's moderately high mileage (unless you are talking Alamo or Enterprise, 40k is acceptable!)

I like the Stinger but have literally seen 3 in person, ever. One was on display inside a mall!

I almost bought a Stinger, and still am in love with them. When researching them, I spent quite a bit of time researching them everywhere I could, including the Stinger forums. To echo what GFerg stated, what I found was the early build ones were more likely to experience rattles and small annoyances. I satisfied myself (FWIW) that, in buying a 2019, my risk for such was quite low.

The good part of what I saw on the forums was that issues are small. Annoying, no doubt, but not any big mechanical issues, problems being stranded, etc.

Long story short, I would happily buy a current build without fear of issues.

Have you looked at the Genesis G70? It has the same drivetrains as the Stinger, in a slightly smaller, more agile package, with nicer trim and a more-plush interor. I recently reviewed a G70 2.0T and found it a superb small sport-sedan.

Not seriously, no. The G70 is great, but I preferred the Stinger styling and the G70s rear seat is too small.

I am strongly considering the G70 next time around. It's like the IS size wise but Genesis, an idea I can get behind.

Stinger is still in the running for me as well considering it will probably have a better used market in a year's time when I am shopping. Trying to avoid leasing this time around. If that wasn't a factor I would go G70, no question.

Did you test a G70, JDR76?

I did not test one, just the Stinger.

I gave the G70 a hard look. Like the Stinger, the 2nd row is a bit cramped. Give me another 2 -3 inches for leg room for serious consideration.

Interesting. I didn’t find the back seat of the Stinger cramped at all. It’s a LOT roomier than the G70.

2nd row legroom facts:
stinger 36.4in
g70 34.8in

my preference is 38-40in. Stinger is a 1.6 inches more roomier. Just would like a bit more.

2019 Lexus ES 350 rear legroom 39.2in

Completely different class of car! What are the comparable leg room numbers for the IS, the 3 series or the C class? The G70 is close and the Stinger is larger.

+1. Sounds like All4Lexus should be in the market for something mid- or full-sized. I'd say the IS, etc. are more appropriate as daily drivers that might occasionally see back seat use.

It's worth noting that combined legroom is also important to consider. Drivers and front passengers can provide more legroom to rear occupants to varying degrees. Meh.

If you fit, you fit.

Thumbs up 18 months Ownership Update

Time flies when you're having fun...!

18 months update, exactly 20k km on the odometer.

Besides the several smallish (but some costly) issues experienced by the 12 month ownership time frame (as seen here), I have a couple more updates:

Pros:
No new pros, however, I'm reminded almost daily on its practicality (ironic yes!) and how onlookers are impressed with the styling and presence of the car. People still do not know this car and think it's a far more expensive, luxury car. In fact, new BMW 8-series GC???

Cons:
1. Some new rattles/creaks surfacing:
- Panoramic sunroof
- Rear hatch (still though occasional on harder road bumps)
- Driver door panel creaking

2. Rubber/weatherproofing around the glass/trunk lid coming out.

Overall, still really like the Stinger despite some minor build quality issues, thanks to the performance, practicality, and uniqueness/styling. Thankfully, I still barely see any on the road.

Keeper for now though I'm slowly getting the itch for a BEV (Toyota Corp, where are you??)
