Default 2019 Chevrolet Malibu RS

Starts at $24,995, undercuts the Toyota Camry SE and Honda Accord Sport

$24,120 plus an $875 destination charge, for $24,995 total. That makes the Malibu RS exactly $1,000 more dear than the lower LS trim, which needs $23,995 after destination. We're not sure yet how much the higher LT trim will command.

All 2019 Malibus benefit from a facelift that reworks the front and rear fascias. The 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 163 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque will be mated to a CVT instead of the current six-speed automatic, the brand's first use of a CVT in a non-hybrid model outside of the subcompact Spark. Inside, the infotainment screens grow an inch to eight inches, and get the new Chevrolet Infotainment 3 system. On top of that, the Malibu RS adds a black sport grille and black Bowties, black mirror caps, a rear spoiler, dual exhaust, and 18-inch wheels. Interior upgrades are limited to a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift **** to go with black cloth seats.

Chevy's entry into the field of more aggressive midsizers slides under the prices of the $26,470 Toyota Camry SE and $26,675 Honda Accord Sport. Among the dwindling models on offer, the truly sporty Mazda6 Sport limbos beneath the Malibu RS, at $23,895.

Soft, feminine, bubbly, dumpy-butt styling ruins the whole concept of sport. Poser.

I disagree with Fizzboy on the styling, But it certainly has a dumpy-butt of an engine.....and I say that as (generally) a fan of GM products. One must move up to the Premier trim level to get even the 2.0L turbo four. And all versions, along with many of their mid-sized competitors, lack what I would want.....a non-turbo V6.

I don't want to hijack this thread into politics, but the day won't come too soon for me when the Trump Administration scraps the 50-MPG+ CAFE rules and lets us have real engines again.

You are an auto expert. You should know what dumpy-butt refers to. And I've explained it per your request several times.

No, it's not a loser. It's a poser. Posing to be sporty when it hasn't been to the gym.

Agreed. I wouldn't mind a non-turbo V6. I have yet to drive a turbo four that had the same power delivery and audio refinement.

1.5L 4 in this car is certainly a loser. I also don't care for the severely sloped rear glass. Is this a hatchback? Rear passengers will get a sunburn

Gotta really love the Chevrolet brand to get one of these. I think the powertrain warranty is very long. Amazing that the Camry has a base engine that makes almost 40 more horses.

The grill looks like it’s ready to trim your facial hair, just like the Camry. It a good look.

All of these cars are starting to look the same. I think one unique way to sell a car would be to create a strong story behind the car. I want to know why this line is here or there. Why this color was choosen for production or why this piece made the cut. What is the story behind this beauty???????

Rented a Malibu about a year ago. If anybody tries to tell you there's no such thing as a bad new car anymore, I reccommend having them take a test drive. Made me embarrassed to be American.

Base engine is weak sauce. And why can't GM style a sedan properly.
