Default 2019 Audi A6 gets almost $10k Price Hike

I understand the reasoning behind the hike (dropping the I4), but that is still a pretty substantial price increase for the now entry model.

V6 only. V8 likely coming. Base 4 likely as well. Can't imagine they'd let the E300 and 530i run around without a fight.

Agreed. That's a large portion of sales right there, at least in my local market.

I think you're correct. I read that the 4 cylinder version would follow the V6 shortly after intro. I agree, Audi wouldn't want to loose that volume to MB and BMW.

Yikes a $10k increase initially does sound very steep though!

Yes, the engine might be part of the reason, but one just as likely (and not mentioned in the article that I could see) is anticipation of the effect of the upcoming tariffs. Audi, to my knowledge, does not build the A6 in the U.S....and American-market versions will probably be subject to the tariff. And, on that subject, that gets back to what I said before about the tariff....I don't think that automakers will (realistically) be able to raise their prices here in the U.S., based solely on the tariff. The vehicles just won't sell, and the automakers will be forced to do one of two things.....either drop the vehicle in the U.S. or bring production of it here (or back here), with American labor.

meh.... not bad.....

It's actually more fair to compare V6 models to V6 models in this regard, the new A6's base price of $59,895 is $2,420 more than last year's.

I like the styling of that car a lot. Its not super exciting but looks nice in a minimalist way.

I think it makes sense, the A4 is bigger now and it serves that bottom end of the A6 market.

That is the problem with these stupid 4 cylinders taking the place of base 6 cylinders, it has caused auto makers to put a huge premium on the 6 cylinder and price it where the 8 cylinder used to be. Lose lose for customers.

I may be wrong, but I don't think the Bread-and-Butter A6 ever had a V8...that was saved for the S6.

The C5 A6 (99-05) had an optional 4.2L V8 in non S or RS trim, also the C6 A6.

You're not wrong, but it is splitting hairs. Audi has a separate model where its competitors just have a trim level. The S6 competes against the 550i (and 540/545i before it), the E550, etc. Same deal in the entry segment, where there is no A4 that competes directly against the 340i or the C400--that's where the S4 comes in. Where BMW has M cars and Mercedes has AMG, Audi has the RS-series, and I think that's where you're getting into models that are legitimately separate from the mainstream ones.

That's a long-winded way of saying the S6 is the V8 version of the A6.

Just delayed intro for the 4cyl version.

BMW has similar dilemma as New 3series will be offered only with 4cyl with the 6cyl coming as 2020 model.

imho going back decades, Audi has been ahead with styling, and cool features. I don't know that they were ever able to shake that red headed step child image to BMW and MB. Doing away with manuals, and continuing to use a V6, when BMW and MB have I6's is an issue imho...don't get me wrong A4/A6/A8 are all beautiful cars. But when you are in these price ranges you have a lot of choice.
