Driving gently pays off

I tried out my parents new Avalon today, thought of you in mind. Their car will start if the key is on the roof of the car.

Don't want to drag my own thread off-topic, but are your parents satisfied with their Avalon? (Moderator, yes, this is off topic, go here https://www.clublexus.com/forums/car...lon-today.html)

So, I find a lot of variability of these systems and how they will work depending on where the key is.
The Lexus is pretty strict. If theres another key in the car for instance it will not lock the doors with the keyless system. If you leave your key in the car and try and lock it from the outside button, it won't do it. It also will not start if the key is in the back seat. Has to be in the front seat, driver or passenger. You cant lean in and start the Lexus with the key in your pocket outside of the vehicle interior.
Our Pacifica will, and it has no problem with there being another key in the car, and doesn't care where that key is in the car, and you can lean in and start it. In fact, since I have my wallet key for the Lexus now I no longer carry a keychain, so when I drive the Pacifica I have to carry the key. Being absent minded I always misplace the key since I don't have a keychain anymore. I thought I had lost it for good, it was missing for over a week. We found it in the car in one of the console cubbies. I had put it there for the carwash, and my wife had been driving it all week with her Key and the van didnt care there was another key in the car. The Lexus would have refused to lock.

My Lacrosse doesn't have a key, either, but what I did was put the fob onto a ring, together with my house key, mailbox key, a couple of small grocery mini-bonus cards, and a key to my brother's house. That way, it also tends to make a jingle-noise so I know if it is in my pocket or not.

What is Luck? You can’t touch it. Merely a happenstance of random order that isn’t repeatable.
Call it whatever you need. Only thing for sure is accidents happen when people push their luck too far. I believe in neither. Things happen regardless of what we want to do or not and no not because of a singular omnipotent being rather just our own fate
How do I know this? I’m a minister.

However, when I got my 17 LS460L I got the wallet key for it:
Since I drive the LS 90% of the time, I no longer carry a set of keys or a key ring. All of my door locks are push button combination locks and I have a private mailbox. So, when I do drive the Pacifica I have to remember to get the key off the hook and carry the key with me loose, and not part of a keyring.
What I did was get a little clip and put it on the Pacifica key so I can clip it to my belt loop when I'm driving the Pacifica and not lose it.

The flat wallet key inside the little folder is an interesting design. GM, in contrast, builds a metal key, inside of the bob itself, which either flips or pulls out....and you pull a trim-cover off the door handle to reveal an emergency keyhole.

Lexus does the same thing with the emergency key. Even the wallet key has an emergency key:
The car doesn't come standard with the wallet key, I ordered it and had it programmed. It comes standard with two regular fobs.

Here is my key sticking out of my card case. I carry this in one pocket and my phone in the other (used to wear my phone in a holster on my belt before I did away with carrying keys) which means when I carry the Pacifica key its awkward.

hmmm.. I don't believe this story.
a Kia nor any other brand with keyless push button start will not start, if the key is not INSIDE the car...
Owning a Genesis (same company as Kia) I just verified that mine will not start with the key on the roof: anywhere on the roof. it won't even start if I hold the fob out the window, nor will it start with the key in the trunk,
and I know for damn sure my RCF would not either, because I typically keep my fob in my left pocket, and there are times when I get into the car that my left leg is still outside the door and the RCF, Genesis, and wife's Toyota not start, all say "key not found".
With both the RCF and Genesis there have been times when I was fully in the car and I got "key not found" because the fob was in one of my cargo pockets and was down too low for the ignition array to pick it up.
Sorry I don't buy it.

My 2007 IS350 had that on the handle.

Driving fast pays off...hear me out lol. Note: We all drive "aggressive". I have 4 friends that have been in accidents the past 1.5 years.
Friend #1 had 2 accidents. A FedEx truck hit him in traffic and the other he was doing 30 mph and a car made a u turn and they collided.
Friend #2 doing 60 on highway, road was wet ( not raining) and he hydroplaned hit the barrier.
Friend #3 going around a off ramp doing 40 mph and back tire blew out, slid off the road and into the grass. Broke 2 wheels.
Friend #4 was at a stand still and a car back into him.
All these accidents and they were going slow. So the theory is, drive fast and never get into an accident.
obviously not being serious lol.
