Default NHTSA Deems Tesla Model 3 #1 Safest Car Ever Tested

NHTSA On Tesla Model 3: Lowest Probability Of Injury Of Any Tested Vehicle

It’s as safe as it gets.

As predicted by Elon Musk, the Tesla Model 3 has the lowest probability of injury of any car ever tested by the NHTSA.It aced all of the crash tests a couple weeks ago and now, after the release of the full data, we discover that the Model 3 is actually the safest car tested by the NHTSA. Of course, Musk foreshadowed this in a Tweet awhile back, too:

In its recently released report, Tesla states:Based on the advanced architecture of Model S and Model X, which were previously found by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to have the lowest and second lowest probabilities of injury of all cars ever tested, we engineered Model 3 to be the safest car ever built. Now, not only has Model 3 achieved a perfect 5-star safety rating in every category and sub-category, but NHTSA’s tests also show that it has the lowest probability of injury of all cars the safety agency has ever tested. So, the Model 3 is now the safest, but believe it or not the next 2 safest cars are Teslas, too:NHTSA’s previous tests of Model S and Model X still hold the record for the second and third lowest probabilities of injury, making Tesla vehicles the best ever rated by NHTSA. We should point out that the NHTSA tested the Model 3 Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive as part of its New Car Assessment Program.

The Model 3 scored top marks in every single tested category. Beyond that, the Model 3 comes equipped with every NHTSA-recommend safety technology as standard equipment, meaning you don’t have to tick an option box to get a safer Model 3. Every 3 is as safe as the next. Safety has always been paramount at Tesla, so no surprise here. It was way back in 2013 when the Tesla Model S earned crazy high marks from the NHTSA and now it seems with the Model 3, Tesla has raised the bar again.Model 3 owners should be thrilled now knowing that the vehicle they drive is basically the safest car on the planet, according to the NHTSA.

Its funny because didn't they get sued for one crash? People have been getting into wrecks for centuries.

Default NHTSA says Tesla's 'safest car ever built' claim goes beyond its analysis

WASHINGTON — Tesla claimed its Model 3 electric car has the lowest risk of occupant injury of any vehicle in U.S. government tests, but the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on Tuesday said the claim goes beyond the scope of its analysis.

The auto safety's agency's 5-Star Safety Ratings Program uses three crash tests and a rollover resistance assessment to come up with an overall ranking.

The Model 3 achieved the top rating, five stars, on that ranking along with other vehicles such as the 2018 model Volvo S60, Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, Honda Civic, Volkswagen Jetta and Ford Mustang.

"NHTSA does not distinguish safety performance beyond the star rating with five stars being the highest safety rating a vehicle can achieve. Thus, there is no NHTSA 'safest' ranking within the five-star category," the agency said.

Tesla on Sunday said in a blog post, "NHTSA's tests also show (the Model 3) has the lowest probability of injury of all cars the safety agency has ever tested." That claim prompted numerous blogs and commentators to call the Model 3 the "safest ever" vehicle. Tesla said it had engineered the car to be "the safest car ever built."

Tesla said Tuesday its assessment was calculated using publicly available data, taking the weighted average of crash scores to calculate a vehicle safety score and then multiplying it by a baseline injury risk value.

Tesla's analysis also said that its Model S and Model X also had a lower probability of injury than all other vehicles tested by NHTSA.

In November 2013, NHTSA blocked automakers from promoting vehicle safety ratings of more than five stars, three months after Tesla touted the score on its Model S.

Tesla said in August 2013 that the Model S had achieved a score of 5.4 stars, a figure based on Tesla's independent analysis of NHTSA data. Three months later, NHTSA explicitly barred companies from promoting safety scores higher than five stars.

NHTSA is considering changes to its five-star crash assessment program and said it needs "to be modernized to incentivize the voluntary adoption of safety features." The agency is considering creating safety ratings for areas of vehicle performance not currently rated.

if you have to ask, then.... lol jk , here's the deal with the model 3. in the beginning musk said it would be 35k, that was just to get people to pre order. Eventually musk took off the 35k price on his website and now it is 50k. the performance model is about $70k, double the initial price.

Another false marketing from Tesla. Good on the NHTSA on calling them out. They can't claim to be the "safest" when other cars have the same rating.

Similar to their "Autopilot", where its only semi, but called "Autopilot" to make people think its more.
