GM closing Ontario, Detroit, and Ohio factories
#466
Could I change my mind in the future? Not likely, but yes, anything is possible. I learned, long ago, when I bought my Subaru Outback, never to say never. The lure of easy driving through snowstorms finally got to me. I never thought I'd own a plastic-body car, either, but I absolutely loved my Saturn SL2.

GM isnt going to reverse the decision on these plants. If you google "GM" its not even on the news feed anymore, public attention has moved past this and these plants will close and nobody will even notice.

I'm not saying there aren't articles, just that it isn't a top story. Google "GM" and look at the news stream.

No. I don't think you grasped what I meant. If the big GM sedans are l dropped, it makes little difference to me if the plants are building EV Bolts or trucks/SUVs. As of now, they're not going to get my business, because those vehicles simply aren't my forte. But, either way, I want to see the workers protected as much as possible...they are the ones that tentatively could suffer the most.

I wouldn't go too far out on a limb on that if I were you. They may indeed close...or they may be retooled for something else. We'll see.
To me personally, it makes little difference. Either way, the cars I'd want (Lacrosse, Impala, CT6) are gone.....although I do care for the workers, and hope they don't lose their jobs. If they wind up making different vehicles in the same plant, at least they still can put bread on the table.

Oh, it has? Guess somebody forgot to tell the Canadians. This is an article dated today.

nothing except no one in canada reads it, no one cares about overpaid auto union workers, and boycotts never work.

so this obscure mexican website has a story about canadian auto union workers asking canadians not to buy gm cars made in mexico. what’s wrong with this story?

In the past, the public, as a whole, probably didn't care as much as they do today about where vehicles were specifically built. Some still don't, but their numbers seem to be dropping off, and that seems to be changing as the plight of displaced factory workers, their needs, and their sufferings become more widely known and publicized. There is a growing sense (more so every day) that, whether we are Canadians or in the U.S., we simply have to take care of our own workers first, not Mexicans or Asians.
