If anything seems like additional wear/tear causing the driver to start a 2nd time. Maybe they are assuming a thief took the fob from the owner as well so as soon as the door opens the vehicle stops and gives the owner a chance to catch up? I've only done remote start on GM vehicles and it requires the vehicle to be locked prior to when the remote start happens.
and gm’s way is same as jeep and genesis... can’t start an unlocked car.
in my genesis, when i get in and the car’s running from remote start, i must press brake and start button as if i’m starting it, in order to shift out of park and drive off. Presuming that won’t work unless i have a key fob, so perfectly secure unless someone stole my fob, but short of face recognition that’s going to happen regardless of remote start.

The Lexus Way is the best way...and its reliable sooo it will persist until the test of time or some huge market force convinces them otherwise.

Maybe it has to do with shifting out of park? I bet cars with electronic gear selectors could allow the car to keep running but disable shifting out of park.

Lexus’ remote start is the worst, especially with the key fob. The key fob has horrible range and the push, push, hold of the lock button takes numerous times to work. On my Durango the key fob is nearly flawless.
As for starting from the app, both are not that great and is hit or miss when I try it. I do like that my when I remote start my Durango it doesn’t shut off when I open the door. I just get in, put my foot on the brake, hit start and I am off.

I think for this specific use case, what they are doing is overkill. Sure, it's in the name of safety, but there are other ways to achieve it. Like, just disallow remote start when the car is unlocked and disallow driving away with no key.

Maybe it has to do with shifting out of park, but most of the current vehicles out there are electromechnical shifters without direct linkages and the remote start system operate just fine.

As many of you know, I am planning on picking up a Stinger soon. In reading the Stinger forums, I'm disappointed to hear that the Kia remote start does the same in that it also shuts off the engine when you open the door. Sigh. I was surprised and figured it would be the same as Genesis, which I believe does not do this.
