Disappointing toyota’s not sticking with it. But not surprised.

They are planning to do just that, but not sure about the manual option though. The Twins goes to about $30k so the difference in price is not much, well not much for someone getting these as a weekend toy.

I think that would be great. They should just strap the 2.0t from the NX in there. That engine will come alive with a thousand less pounds to haul around and AWD.

Gotta love the internet....

reports have been denied by both Subaru and Toyota separately

so fake news indeed.
After we talked to Toyota yesterday about whether the 86 was going to be axed, and receiving an immediate reply that this is totally false, we thought we ought to chat with Subaru, too, and find out their plans about the BRZ.
Subaru USA spokesman Ron Kinno’s response was swift and leaves no room for interpretation:
“We do not endorse this report coming from Japan’s Best Car”, he told CarScoops. “We are moving ahead with a next-generation Subaru BRZ, but have no further details at this time.”

The twins came out in 2013, we are now in 2019.
The refresh was in 2017.
A new model if there was one should show up in 2020.
It doesn’t even sound they began even working on the damn car - so the earliest it will come is when 2022, 2023....come on it makes no sense at all.
Nobody has seen any mules testing of the new cars while there were plenty of the Supra. I think at best maybe they will do a refresh 2.0 and keep it around for another 3 yrs like Nissan does with 350Z and GTR.

If Toyota denies, yes it's fake news.
And it's also not a problem that Toyota didn't started to an MK3 version. We have today, a form of "Diktat" of a new car every 5 years. This new logic is, indeed, illogic and will probably break the neck of some carmakers in a near future.
And if Subaru and Toyota really will make the next gen GT86 be equipped with a NA 2.5 flat four, it is logical that the delays will be longer.
In my eyes, they are clearly anticipating the next economical crisis incoming, and they will probably purpose the next generation when economy will rise again. It will be a better terrain.
Just my 1.2 dollars.
