Farah adds that the LS400 started off as “a car in a massive state of disrepair” when he bought it, which led to him spending nearly $17,000 to get the $1,500 Lexus in running order, plus $4,500 per year for a commercial insurance policy so others can help the car achieve its goal.

Oh I get what you mean. This LS is nothing special IMO it was junky to begin with. Any brand of car could reach those miles with repairs. Those Tundras are extra special, the engineers are saying that some of the parts show very little wear.

I have an ‘06 Tundra with the 4.7. I’ve been really considering “upgrading” to new(er) Ram 1500, but I just can’t pull the trigger. The truck has been very reliable since I purchased it 5 years/78k miles ago. Besides regular maintenance, all I’ve done is replace the radiator, one rotor/caliper (seized), and a u-joint. The odometer shows 155k miles, but I’m 99% sure someone rolled the miles back at least 20-30k. In the past week decided to do the timing belt/water pump, so it’s ready for another 100k miles+. Looks like the engine is good for 1M miles, but somehow I can’t see myself driving it past 250k.

Here is a fascinating break down of the million mile Tundra. They get into the 4.7 engine that the Tundra was equipped with. The engine was built in Alabama. Surprised to see Toyota USA ship the seats to Japan for observation by engineers in that part of the company.

My Lexus LS430 has stamped steel from 2006, so that is a bit cheap too. It's not like it just started in 2019....

The Tundra held up better, Toyota even took it apart to examine and put it all back together. Goes to show that a modern Toyota or Lexus could last just as long as an older model. That whole nonsense about older Toyota/Lexus stuff being built better is just that, nonsense.
