So the real question. What work was needed to be done to get to 1,000,000 miles for the mighty 4.3L V8? Simply TLC, or did bigger problems arise?

it has a lot of small issues, tons of leaks, bad bearings and bushings. Would take quite a bit to resolve those but it would defeat the purpose of the car if you did. With the amount of leaks the engine has, it would need to be pulled to replace every seal and gasket

The interesting thing is there was a time when many drove vehicles with such leaks etc., there was no assumption that if I parked on your EP Henry it would be clean when I left. People told me not to park my LeMans Sport in their driveway, I remember, and that was just based on appearance. Not everyone had a new car in the 90's. To make it 1 mil is a feat. My poncho was in that condition after only 100-200k

Sadly, the new LS won't have a snowballs chance in hell of ever having a million mile example. Probably not even half that with its twin turbo V6.

it probably still could, but I definitely don't think it could if it lived the same hardly pampered life as this car

That shows what I have been saying for some time now.....how much more solidly that Lexus products, in general, were built 20 years ago than they are today.

Yes, Lexus products are not overbuilt like the good old days. Still a good vehicle, but standards seem to be less. My next vehicle, whatever that is, may not even be in the Toyota family.

You both are actually wrong. There are modern Toyota's that have lasted over 1 million miles.

That does not show what you have been saying. Below are some videos of million mile Toyota models. You are incorrect about how modern Toyota's are not built as solid as those in the past. The Tundra story actually hit the mainstream press.

I owned a Lexus product from that era. I know exactly how well it was built, though I'll admit that didn't keep it for a million miles.

17 grand? Something very off about that even if he bought retail OEM parts and had the work done at Lexus. Well then maybe.

And you have not owned a Lexus or Toyota model in the modern era if I am correct. So you wouldn’t know exaclty? The Tundra and Tacoma prove you wrong in that the newer models last just as long as the earlier models.

17 does not seem to off? Consider $1000 per year for maintenance. My 4Runner is about $700 a year to keep it running.
