Similar to BMW's M Sport. The real BMW M's have an S engine. This really means nothing to those who don't care (this statement is genius, isn't it? Trying to be politically correct and that's how it came out), as the numbers are what is important to them. In the early days it meant badging, but not anymore. The "fake" models put out impressive numbers. But it's like a fake handbag or sunglasses, some people can distinguish them. You know the Saatchi and Saatchi saying, to sell the sizzle. That's what these "fake" cars do exactly.

For me the E63s AMG would have to be a top 3 favorite car, one other slot occupied by a 991, and the third slot open....

i think a 2 ton family sedan released in 2002 that can do a sub 12 sec 1/4 mile with no mods is still quite impressive even by 2019 standards haha... i'd love to see what the car could do with a modern trans however, that certainly slows the car down a bit
many people say the E55 would be better with a 6MT, but i think the 5 speed does a great job of making it still be luxurious and smooth, and on DAS AUTOBAHN where it really shines it's a great fit for the car
i love the idea of a car that feels like a regular car the majority of the time, yet turns into a psychopath when you hit the gas, and the V8 Kompressor and 5 speed combo does that wonderfully

for me those early to mid 2000's cars are still fun and almost become sleepers where many don't know what they are, but we do...

that answer would depend on who's answering, but to me a "real" AMG ultimately comes down to the engine being hand assembled by a single technician, hence the plaque traditionally placed on the top of the engine:
the car doesn't need this to still be really good, but to me at least without this it's not "an AMG"
