*Taurus... making the dream come true...* Will never forget that ad that ran way too many times.

The Explorer does perfect in high speed pursuits. It was tested extensively on closed courses by multiple police agencies and fine tuned to meet the standards of extreme duty. It would not have been sold by the tens of thousands to agencies if it were not fit or unsafe for the job. We have a high speed chase daily in L.A., and the CHP and LAPD has been handling them with Explorers for years with zero problems. To say these are unsafe for police duty is uneducated. The Explorer and Charger are the two most common units in police fleets across the country.

Most LAPD officers I've talked to dislike the Charger (cramped), say the Explorer is decent, but liked the Crown the most. For an officer, getting into and out the front seat is the single most important consideration in rating a service vehicle. Keep in mind this move takes places dozens of times per day.

The Taurus's day has come and gone. The early generation hit the mark the closest, then Ford let the whole thing go while focusing on other products.

whenever i get the chance (which is generally if i'm at a courthouse paying a ticket) i'll ask cops if driving the crown vic these days is like nice we still get to use a vic, or ughhh we still have to use a vic... and every single time, which is like 3 times, it's always praising the vic and saying how worse the explorers and taurus's are

there seems to be a general trend of cops saying that the explorer "feels and sounds like it's about to explode" when it gets pushed hard

crown vic for life yo lol... at least when there's a crown vic in pursuit i know there's an easy chance of escape, whereas some of these explorers with the ecoboost and chargers with the 5.7 are decently quick (that was a joke mmarshall, i know there's still no outrunning the radio)

Not only the radio, but the cops also use helicopters and VASCAR. A properly-flown helicopter, with competent and highly-trained spotters, is probably the hardest thing of all to evade.

Back to the Taurus and Crown Vic....totally agree. In my experience, it's a rare cop that doesn't want the Crown Vics back. They only grudgingly accepted the Taurus interceptors, though they like the Chargers a little more than the Taurus because they have more engine and RWD.
